Reviewer Steve hit the nail on the Deadhead.Why should you listen to me? I saw this incarnation of the JGB in 1989 and 1990 (as well as other JGBs, and the Grateful Dead every year from 1978-1994 except 1983 when I was working my ass off to get into grad school). I have had a collection of live GD and JGB since at least 1980, literally thousands of shows all told. This is as close to a Desert Island CD as JGB has ever produced. Garcia is in top form (at least for 1980 - 1995) and the band seems to be taking liberties with the arrangements from the start, which of course intrigues and stimulates Jerry. I'm guessing he's refreshed to be playing a little hall in Hilo as opposed to, say, the Philly Spectrum (to pick a random cattle yard of yore :o)This one is well worth seeking out. ENJOY !!

If you are reading this page, you have enough interest in JGB to appreciate this one. I am not one to write many reviews, but this release is stellar. I am an avid GD/JG fan with well over 2000 shows in my collection (including most official releases) and I generally favor the pre-1980s shows. There are some exceptions to these preferences and this release a great example of one. I have not been able to stop listening to this release since it arrived. I will agree with the other reviews, it is one of the best JG releases available. Highlights: pretty much everything...Over time Jerry releases tend to disappear (such as the Pure Jerry series) so grab this one while it is available.

I was pleasantly surprised by this release. The set list is by now, if you’re a JGB fan, all too familiar. And Garcia was just coming off the Spring ‘90 tour with the Grateful Dead - arguably the last really good tour in the band’s amazing history. So I wasn’t really expecting the kind of energy and happiness exhibited by Jerry at this show. He is having fun and his playing and singing reflect his exuberance. It must have been contagious because the rest of the band are really locked in. This is a really good show and the recording is excellent. If you’re a fan you will probably buy it, but if you’re on the fence, don’t pass it up. A very enjoyable JGB show which had already become one of my favorites of the series.

I bought this for my brother for his birthday every year and they are always a win. I just keep buying all the different volumes. He’s excited to have the full collection someday.

I have been waiting 27 years for a release like this - ever since the eponymous Jerry Garcia Band album was released. Hopefully this release signals a change in the shows that are going to be released hereafter. The Jerry Garcia Band, made up as it was with the members on this album, was the last and longest incarnation of the band, and it deserves to have its best recordings shared with the world. Previous releases had me worried that the better soundboard recordings had been lost or damaged.

ALL GARCIA CDs ARE INSTANT CLASSICS!!With that shouting out of the way, this is a great collection of Jerry playing loose and singing great for this period of his life.The recording quality is excellent as they are with this "GarciaLive" series.Buy all 10 (so far) and don't be left out when they start a new collection.I missed the last of the Pure Jerry series somehow and now it is going for $249.00 on ebay..

This is a great set list (though not exceptionally unique) with an irie happiness and a feeling of mellowocity.. Probably my favorite of all the GarciaLive releases, and that IS saying something. An amazing Tears of Rage, terrific Tangled up in B., and a sweet Knockin’ are highlights for me. Thank you to whoever makes these release suggestions- you have hit a late inning Grand Slam for a team that always stays near the top!!
