Black Chinese
It is rare I give five stars, but this tea is lovely, slightly different in taste to the other Asian teas, I think I will try the white tips next time although I always find myself coming back to the black teas. It is something to try and feel grateful for (which I try), in the road of life we never know what’s round the corner.

Smokey, burned flavour that has a much better finish than beginning!
I've been trying a few of these recently, never really drank tea throughout life so I've taken the plunge and I guess jumped in at the deep end! This particular tea has a sort of sweet, smoky/burned flavour to it. I'll be honest, as soon as it hit the mouth I pulled the same face Robert De Niro pulls when he hears something particularly silly. Once it exits the mouth and you've swallowed its actually pleasant and refreshing. After a while you get used to the funky smoke taste at the start!

TEA LEAVES MIXED WITH PLENTY OF DEBRIS!
I decided to try this Hiip Tea Yunnan Black premium loose-leaf tea over my favourite Assam tea. The first thing that hit me was the smell, it was very peppery. As for the taste, that was also strong and peppery, and it had an earthy note to it. Over the next couple of days, the smell tended to fade. The taste did take some getting use to, and it was not something I was really used to having drunk English tea blends all my life, but in the end it was okay, but it's not my favourite. What really shocked me, though, was the amount of debris mixed in with the tea. My bag contained bits of plastic covered copper wire, grit, stones, and a plentiful amount of twigs which float to the top of the pot—not what I call a premium bag of tea! I'm afraid I won't be reordering this Chinese Yunnan black tea by Hiip again, and I cannot recommend it. If you're looking for an alternative, I also ordered a bag of Hiip's Assam India Premium black loose-leaf tea, the Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe TGFOP (Assam India, 175g), and that was an excellent premium bag of tea. I'm afraid the Yunnan Black was a failed experiment, I'll be sticking with my favourite Assam tea from now on.

Comforting Strong Enjoyable Cuppa
Comes in an airtight package that locked all the glorious smell inside. Cutting open the resalable package I was greeted by a strong wood smell, hint of orange zest, earthy, with a slight dark chocolate hint. I’m no sommelier or tea expert so forgive my attempts at describing the aroma and taste. Upon opening the package, I was eager to taste the tea. I adore strong punchy robust teas, and Assam teas fit that description wonderfully. I looked to see if the tea had been crushed and was powder, but happy to say there was no sign of powder. The packaging had brewing instruction printed, which could be useful to some. Once brewed, the rich earthy aroma really hits, and it was so warming. I had started to have high hopes for this tea. Thankfully, it didn’t let me down. Upon tasting, the woody earthy hints strongly reminded me of a winter walk through the woods, kicking up wet leaves. A very fresh punch, robust, bitter, and then the wood taste gives way to a nut like sweetness. Then a hint of sour, like you found a sour cherry in some dark chocolate. This all fades leaving with a subtle hint of orange. Ideal drink for winter, it wakes you up, yet feels lovely and comforting. I have had many Assam teas. This is very good, and after trying this Yunnan Black I will be buying Indian Assam. If you prefer more subtle teas, like green, white, oolong, etc… this may not be for you, or you can brew it for a much shorter time.

A good quality everyday tea
It is getting colder and a dark tea goes down much better at this time of year. This is s 100g resealable pouch of whole leaf tea. I've had a few pouches from this brand before and they have not disappointed and this is no different. Open the pouch and you'll see a variety of roasted tea colours ranging from a light brown to dark black. The smell is not very strong but it is a deeper aroma. This is easy to brew. For a large cup use 1 teaspoon in a strainer and add boiling water. Let it brew for a few minutes to your desired strength. The longer it brews the richer the flavour. You can use the strainer for a 2nd brew but it isn't as good. When brewed the aroma is surprisingly mild. I was expecting a heavy flavour and aroma but this was not the case. There is a deeper almost malt flavour, but there is also a freshness that makes it lighter and varied and not too heavy. There's no bitterness. It is almost sweet. This makes for a good everyday tea, either mid morning or afternoon. Good quality and value. Recommended. Thank you for reading my review. I hope you found it useful Good quality and value.
