Makes square stuff round.
This makes metric size dowels. So works best with metric drill bits. I was able to make decent dowels with it, but they come out pretty rough. Lots of tear out and chipping. For my use, since I was gluing these in, it wasn’t so much a negative. It will probably help in the long run with adhesion. Before running them through, I just used a knife to shave down the tip of my work piece to get an easier start. And I would cut my stock pieces to about the size of the hole so that it wouldn’t explode the wood. While the dowels don’t come out perfect, this process is much more efficient and good enough for my uses. It’s great for when I need a custom dowel out of whatever wood I’m working with in the moment.

Well made but of limited usefulness I think
I thought I might find this jig very useful but after trying it out I think my use will be limited. As far as quality of construction and design, I'd give it 5 stars but I rated it on how well it suits my needs. You probably already realize this but it is not going to be the best way to create dowels unless you need a specific wood. I tried with a walnut pen blank (with a poorly marked center) and you see the results. Lots of chipping and tearing on a harder wood.I created a tape on the wood piece so I had something to feed into the hole. I was difficult to hold even this short piece so I think creating a 12 inch or longer dowel would be problematic. I've since bought a special screw with a hex shank end for the drill and a tapered screw to put into your wood piece. It holds a better than a screw chucked into the drill.I think it is going to be most useful to me when I need a peg six inches or less. If it is a plug I want for hiding screws/connectors holes in furniture, I'll use plug cutters made for that purpose.A strong feature of the design is the use of standard carbide cutters. They are 4 sided and very sharp. In case you are not familiar with the cutter, you rotate the piece as a side gets dull. After you've used all 4 sides you toss it. Replacements are readily available because they are used on jointer planers and even lathe chisels. The summary is: for my uses it gets 3 stars. If you have better uses than I, you'd probably rate it higher. And to repeat - strictly from a quality and design view it is definitely 5 stars
