These are NOT the Dads root beer barrels and the taste of these cannot compare. These are aweful. Very displeasing. I thought I was purchasing dad’s root beer barrels because we have purchased bags of them from this same supplier. I received a notification of the barrels from them and thought oh that’s a half bag I normally get and decided to purchase them only to find out they are Not the same. Gross! Do not buy!

I was disappointed that these did not have a stronger root beer flavor. I'm used to the Dad's brand so when I popped one of these in my mouth, I was surprised and a bit disappointed at the taste. If I had to guess, I'd say that the flavor is close to what would have been an original root beer flavor that was made from the bark and roots of the Sassafras tree. The candy is sweet but there is a very slight minty/menthol aftertaste that I think comes naturally with Sassafras. If you're expecting a strong root beer flavor, this isn't the candy for you.

These root beer barrels can bring back childhood memories. They are tasty and provide just the right amount of sugar and that spark of energy you may need. I loved them, for the memories they reminded me; and most importantly for their taste.
