Reliable Wi-Fi extender for outdoor use
This review is for: TP-Link EAP225-Outdoor | Omada AC1200 Wireless Gigabit Outdoor Access Point | Business WiFi Solution w/ Mesh Support, Seamless Roaming & MU-MIMO | PoE Powered | SDN Integrated | Cloud Access & App I bought and have been using 2 of these for over 3 years. One is outdoors and the other is in my shop. They are both still working great! It took a bit to get them set up but the instructions were good and I got them up and running without issue. -Aesthetics โ------- They look pretty good for what they are. They are plastic -Functionality โ- They work great and function in all kinds of weather. -Value for price โ They cost a bit more than other extenders but well worth it considering they still work after 3 years of use through rain, wind, snow and the heat of summers. -Ease of use โ--- As with any Wi-Fi extender there is a bit of set up involved but once that's done it's easy to connect any Wi-Fi device as long as you have the password you create during setup. -Durability โ------ It's plastic so it doesn't look as durable as it actually is. -Use over timeโ Both are still functioning well after over 3 years of continual use. Pros: Well worth every penny! Good signal, reliable, holds up and functions through all kinds of weather. Strong signal strength for a good decent distance. Cons: I don't really have any complaints I am fairly critical with my reviews, reserving; 5 stars only for products that I would highly recommend or would purchase again. 4 stars to products I like and work well but are less than perfect. 3 stars is for products that are barely usable. 2 Stars for products that I have returned or thrown away but are somewhat as described in the product description. 1 Star is for products that are falsely described in the product description and do not meet the needs of my purchase. This review reflects my honest opinion. I was not paid for this review nor was I given the product, or have any affiliation with this product.

Works great, and a good value
I bought two of these devices, and I'm not being reimbursed or paid in any way for this review. I already have a pretty capable mesh WIFI network in place at our (large) house for our phones and mobile devices. A mesh means they all have the same SSID and password, so a device connects to whichever one is strongest once you come into range. But I recently installed a bunch of IP security cameras, and about 2/3 of them are wirelessly connected to my network. I did not want that traffic on my existing wifi network, for reasons I won't go into here. But the point is that these APs were for connecting 8 security cameras, some of them outside and a fair distance from the house! I needed two because half the cameras are on one side of the house, and the rest are on the other...No AP would have worked for all of them. Anyway, these TP-Link APs worked perfectly! They've been in place for about two months now, and they've been rock solid. One is being powered using the injector, the other is powered from a POE hub in my garage, and they both work equally well. The signal strength between these and the cameras is much stronger than the older AP I used to initially connect my cameras. I like the long, slim shape, the ability to mount them to a mast, and the adjustable antennas. The only caveat I'd include, when recommending these APs to someone, is that you cannot combine two or more of them into a mesh! So, if you're using them for mobile devices, and you want to cover a large area (like a big house, or separate buildings) with a single SSID/Password, these aren't a good choice. I knew that before I bought them! But in my case, the IP cameras are fixed in place, and they don't need the ability to connect to more than one AP...so I didn't need that feature. But, if you have a small house, or only need to accommodate an area that can be covered with a single AP, these units are an excellent value. They provide a lot of mounting options (mast, wall, vertical or horizontal, POE makes power requirements a non-issue). They have external antennas you can tweak for maximum performance, and they're inexpensive! I've installed a lot of APs (I've been in IT for 20 years, and have managed some pretty large networks). I'm impressed with these units...in fact, with ALL the TP-Link gear I've used...it performs as well as or better than equipment costing many times more. I can't say how it will hold up in the long term, but my initial impression is that it's quality gear and will continue to work well for a long time!

Died in less than a year. TP customer service took care of me and replaced the POE. The good service and the fact it worked for almost a year justified raising the rating.

The best outdoor wifi mesh/extender I have found
This is a professional level access point for instant mesh and extending purposes. This works really well for home set up, farm properties or off grid systems that have power (solar or wind) It DOES requires setup with the TP-Link OMADA control software. The software controller version is free for up to 1500 APโs but does takes a bit of a learning curve to set up correctly, but when it is, it is super fast broadcasts a great distance. Mesh setup with 2 or more really extends your business or property coverage and keeps the speeds as high as possible. The traffic roaming hand off, means you can walk around on a call or video chat and it hands you off to the stronger/closest AP seamlessly (without the call weakening as you get further from the original connection AP and thus requiring you to re connect to a stronger access point with the same SSID manually) It comes with a Power over Ethernet adapter so you do not need power where the AP is located outside. The power travels down the Ethernet cable from your router or switch. My neighbour and I share a Starlink dish service located on their property. I have one of these EAP225 (AC1200) connected to a Starlink Ethernet adapter at their house. The AP is outside and located 350โ+ from our off-grid house on our property. I have another EAP225 (AC1200) mounted on my house to make the jump. This is connected to the POE adapter and plugged into the WAN port of my Linksys 2.4G/5G router in my house. We get 120-200mbs everywhere in our house and property. I have other off-grid friends also looking to buy these to extend wifi to their shop or barn and mesh Starlink too. Highly recommend!

Got 2 lemons in a row.
The unit is made of plastic and the quality is good. The first one I received, I powered it up using the PoE Injector and it did not power up. I plugged it in my BV-Tech PoE Switch (802.3 af compatible), it still did not work. I plugged it back to the PoE Injector and waited and waited and I noticed that the LED light wasn't turning on, but I smelled something burning. So I returned it and got a replacement the next day. The 2nd unit powered up this time using the PoE Injector that came along with it. I was able to configure it and it was able to run it until the next day where it broke down. When it was still okay, I also tried connecting it to two other PoE Switch brands namelu (BV-Tech and Netgear GS108PE, both are 802.3 af/at compatible. I observed that it did not power up. I changed the cables but it still failed to power up. I'm using these 2 PoE switches to run another TP-Link Access Point (EAP 115) and IP cameras without any problems. From my observation, this EAP 225 is not fully 802.3 af/at compatible. TP-Link should quality check their products if they claim that this is indeed 802.3 af/at compatible. After 1 day of use, it died. The LED at the right side does not light up anymore and I can't see the SSID anymore indicating that it's not powered on. This version (3) is probably a bad batch. I also read other reviews saying that their unit doesn't work with other PoE Switches. I have another TP Link AP (EAP 115) and it works with all of my PoE Switch. This EAP 225 Outdoor however wasn't even powering up. TP-Link, if you are listening, please investigate this issue. When you advertise your product as 802.3 af / at compatible, it should work with any 802.3 af/at compliant PoE Switch. This is not true for this model. Take note that I have your EAP 115 model and it works just fine without hiccups connected to my BV-Tech PoE switch for more than 6 months already. It also works with my Netgear GS108PE. I did not bother get a 3rd replacement. A product failing twice in a row means quality issues and I will get a bad rep from my clients if I deploy this kind of product reliability. Yes, It's easy to install and configure using the Omada App if it works. I have other TP Link products and they all work flawlessly, I can't say the same for this one. Until the PoE compatibility issue and reliability is fixed, I do not recommend buying this model.

Throw the directions AWAY!
I wanted solid Wi-Fi in my backyard. I looked at all types of extenders and did a lot of research. I decided on this because unlike plug-in extenders, this does not have a universal protocol to cut your Wi-Fi speed in half (look it up). I'm giving this 5 stars because if you IGNORE the directions it works very well. The directions want you to download some software to make it work. The software needs pinholes all through your router. The software won't "contact the DB server" even with the pinholes open. The customer service is only available on normal business days, during normal business hours, when you are at work and not at home with hours to play with their non-functional software. The software needs to be updated to the latest version, all the time. The software needs a pc that is always on in order to function (it sounds like). OR..... you could just find this clearly labeled device in your list of LAN devices on your current router, give it a static IP (or a dynamic private fixed IP), go to that IP address, log in with admin admin, change it that to something secure, and then give the lower and upper Wi-Fi bands the identical username and password as your current Wi-Fi router and you're done! I downloaded a free app that lets you see your Wi-Fi strength, and walking into my backyard when the signal drops to zero, it grabs this device's signal perfectly, boosting me back to 100 percent. Coming back inside though, it hangs onto it too much and won't grab the indoor signal unless I turn my phone Wi-Fi on and off, but that takes a few seconds.

Works well outside for WiFi coverage!
Working great to add WiFi coverage outside. My garage is detached from my house. Itโs probably about 200 feet away from my house. This gets strong WiFi into my garage. Now my garage tv works to stream Chris Fix videos when I get stuck on an automotive repair! WiFi speed is very good. No drops no problems at all.

BE Warned! NOT a true wireless Mesh type unit.
Pay CLOSE attention to this unit, how it works, and what it does before you buy it!! 1) Omada interface / controller - as normal, great concept but total trash to implement. I de-registered the software, wiped the initial setup and started over rather than trying to mess with it (its only good for multipoint administration from a central location IMHO) - IE: I did the stand alone fallback mode through a web interface and fixed the problem (much simpler setup) 2) NOT a true "wireless mesh" unit. Only some (mostly omada) wireless networks will work with this thing. My "netgear" router and this unit would not work together for a wireless AP setup. I have no problem with the wireless mesh unit at the other end of my home, it flawlessly synced to a wireless AP mode and didn't take 10 min to setup. (Thankfully I have a hardwire managed hub at that end of the house and just hardlined it). 3) Mounting and Antennas: This thing seems to be a "domed" signal. I have some true antenna mast on my property and with the 'default' antenna setup the signal actually went down at the 200' mark. I had to pull the unit back down, put the antenna horizontal at 70d from each other and then put it back up. This brought the signal back to the ground at the 200' mark and it seams to fade at 100' or so experiment with the signal before you buy the farm with it. Once up, rotate it in small increments (if possible) to get them right The unit is on a 20' mast above a horizontal metal roof, so I suspect a lot of ground-plane reflection. (IE: higher is NOT better with this unit). 4) Heat issue with signal? I have monitored the signal of this unit. At night with cooler temps the RSSI of my furthest camera is 50~60 and during the heat of the day it drops to 65~75 (at 72 my camera starts having streaming issues. once it is up and running it seems to be a pretty good unit, mine has an uptime right now of 15 days and I've seen zero notification errors on it.

L'antenna funziona molto bene ed รจ ben integrata nel sistema Omada, volendo perรฒ puรฒ essere usata come semplice access point o come ripetitore di segnale. Portata buona, dipende molto dal posizionamento delle antenne. Ne ho montate 3 di cui una sul tetto, perfette.
