3000 K, not 2700
These are a well made bulb, but the colour temperature is nearer 3000 than the stated 2700. This means that if you want a crisper, whiter light then this is for you (its a white with only a hint of warmth). On the other hand, if like me you wished for a warmer, slightly yellow, cosy feel (like old incandescents) then this is not quite it.

Low energy bulb that looks like a conventional bulb!
These low energy lamps are compact and do not have a plastic base, which when used in light fittings like in the photo, light up the whole of the shade without protruding from the top. (Note that in both fittings, I have only changed one of the bulbs, and left the old compact fluorescent ones in the other two shades of each fitting for comparison). With Amazon prices, it is cheaper to replace all six of these lamps, than it is to buy spare compact fluorescents to maintain them as they were, besides why wait for the old bulbs to fail, when you can fit these great LED filament bulbs and have your light fittings looking how they were designed to look, and save Evan more energy eg. 40W golf ball conventional lamp to 8W compact fluorescent stick, and now to 4W LED filament golfball lamp; the technology we’ve been waiting for!Just for interest, in the second photo, the light fitting on the left has these LED bulbs, and the one on the right has compact fluorescent bulbs. In the middle of the photo is a compact disk being used to split the light spectrum, as seen on the third photo as follows:- on the left is the result looking at the LED bulbs, on the right is the spectrum with colours missing from the fluorescent bulb. Note that in both there is also the result of natural light from the windows for comparison. This phenomenon is not really very important, but is interesting to try at home (be careful when trying it with direct sunlight). The point I’m making is that tha LED light produces the full colour spectrum whereas the fluorescent lamps they are replacing do not!

A proper 40W replacement
These are nicely packaged. Unlike some LED bulbs these filament LED ones emit light downward, more like a real incandescent bulb. They are compact golf-ball size, often used in small lamps and wall fittings. The colour is acceptable, not sure its 2700K but does not look cold/blue. Brightness is OK, probably more 40W replacement than 60W but I have a couple in a hallway and they don't feel noticeably dimmer than the two 60W incandescents they replaced.

Mostly good but one issue
The bulbs themselves are fine and perform as expected. Like a few others have commented, my box of six contained one bulb with the glass detached though not broken. They are well packaged and I imagine this could be a manufacturing issue rather than damage in transit but no way to tell really. I had thought about returning them but only actually needed five for the light fitting anyway so decided not to bother with the hassle. That faulty bulb reduced my rating to four stars because it shouldn't really happen.

New Lights!
Perfect for these outside bulkhead lights, they were all 60w lamps now they are 7w and even brighter than the old inefficient lamps. Very happy and I'm sure the kennel dogs will appreciate them on those dark winter days.

Very good value
I wondered if these would fit in our light fittings (up lights) as I had always used the old candle shape type before we changed to modern bulbs. Was delighted they fit, are such good value, and intend to buy more in the new year they are bright and for a pack of 6 good value.

Very bright
These attractive and high efficiency LED lamps seem a lot brighter than the old 40W incandescent ones. The multi filament design usefully dispenses light from a broad source and softens shadows from the housing which in my case has 6 vertical bars.

Worthwhile purchase.
Great energy efficient bulbs, with no discernible delay to achieving full brightness. Bulb shape was slightly smaller than I had anticipated. This could be an issue for light shades with fixtures that fit around the bulb. As with all LED bulbs, these run very cool to the touch. They will prove their value if they last their stated 15,000 hours.
