These are great if your cats are spicy
I have three cats. One hates getting into the cat carrier to go to the vet, so this would be perfect for that purpose, but the reason I bought it was for my office cat. He's the only cat allowed in. He's chill most of the time, but sometimes, he thinks it's time to play when I'm trying to move my mouse, and he has caused many wounds from scratches and bites. He's big and he plays hard. I do use a laser pointer and other toys so he works out that energy, but to get him off my desk to do that, I need to brave those claws and teeth.Since I bought this pair of gloves, I put one on to handle him when he gets painfully playful. It works very well. I don't feel a thing when he bits and claws the glove. I went by the reviews, and now I can say that you can believe those reviews.I can't type with them, and I never expected to be able to, but I can move my mouse and I can get Paco off of my desk to play with him with something other than my hand, so I'm completely satisfied.

Big and durable, but uncomfortable
These gloves are big, heavy, and durable. Great for handling anything sharp like thorny bushes or angry cats. The gloves I received have some large pieces jutting out on the seams inside and make them not particularly comfortable to wear. For the price and protection, the slight discomfort is acceptable.

They work!
I am a wildlife rehabber and sometimes have to handle feisty critters during rescues or on release day, which sometimes results in bites, just a part of the job. Recently I had to pick up a spunky skunk who proceeded to try to bite with her little needle teeth and they didn't get through the glove no matter how hard she tried. However, she wasn't happy and sprayed so I'm not sure how to get that out of the leather, but I did not get a nasty bite. I haven't put it to the test of raccoons yet but I believe this will reduce the number of scars I get taking care of these wild critters. Wish I had found these much sooner. Well worth the money!

Protects me from vicious bites ... by my citrus trees!
I know these gloves are supposed to protect from animal bites, but I put them to an entirely different use.My citrus trees are covered with thorns, some small, some medium sized, you can't always see them, and you can never avoid them. When I reach in to pick a fruit, or to trim out dead twigs, or to snip off growth going in the wrong direction, I always get pricked by these thorns. Sometimes my hands and arms get covered with punctures, and for weeks after they'll hurt and itch. When I scratch the itch, they bleed. I think my citrus trees are not keeping themselves as clean as they could be, and I'm being injected with bacteria by these dirty little pricks.I borrowed some leather work gloves and they did help a bit, but my arms still got scratched up.Then I saw these longer gloves and I had to have them.So how did they work out? On the good side, I did not get a single scratch on my hands or arms, this while picking fruit *and* trimming interior twigs and branches. On the negative side? The hand that picks fruit becomes a little clumsy, while the other hand is fine holding foliage away. I think the leather is thicker on the hands, and that reduces flexibility and sensation. I have a good snipper, got it here on Amazon, you can check my other reviews to read about it, and however I became deficient in holding the snipper by wearing these gloves, that snipper made up for my failings by decisively cutting. So I get to pick fruit and tend to my citrus trees while no longer getting scratched up. I need to adapt a bit since things feel differently and my arms are just a little thicker, but I've had it with getting scratched and needing to take a couple of weeks each time to recover, not to mention having to wear long sleeves at social events to cover up the needle tracks. One thing to know - when you pull these out of the packaging first time they stink. I think the smell is left over from the manufacturing process. Let these gloves air out. I only use them outdoors, and since my primary purpose is to protect me from these voracious citrus trees, I find I can forgive small nuisances just as long as I can stay safe and scratch-free.One last note: you are reading a Vine review, which means this product was sent to me without my having to pay for it. I never believed Vine reviews, I felt people would say anything to get free stuff. The Vine program, at least for me, is a little different: I only get what I go out of my way to ask for, and everything I get is reported as income to me, so I'll have to pay income taxes at what will probably be reported as list price. I may actually lose on the deal. But I searched and searched for gloves like these, I didn't know to look at animal handling gloves, these gloves are something I so much wanted to use, I didn't see them at my local big box home improvement center, I nabbed them when I saw them available for review, and, hopefully, my experience has been a help to you.

Sold For Animal Handling but Work Great For Woodstove
These are advertised for handling animals and I can see where they'd be good for that, but it also notes they can be used for welding, which is a high heat application and I've been wanting to get safety gloves to use when loading the woodstove and thought they'd work great for that.Glad to say I was right. When loading the stove I have occasionally burned fingers, back of hand and various spots on my arms when I inadvertently touch the hot door while loading. Fixed this with welding gloves, but they are relatively short, so I still occasionally burned an arm or singed a shirt or jacket on the woodstove door or on opening. These gloves are great because they fit all the way up to my elbow, so that's no longer an issue. The gloves seem well made, have a double layer of leather on the palms and they are comfortable to use, but you're not going to want to do any fine work with them on...the fit is a little like mittens with fingers. They are one size fits all and if you have a medium to larger hand you'll be fine, but they are too big for small hands.Nicely made and with the higher sleeve look forward to no more accidental burns!
