Great initial stone
I used this first in combination with the 3000,5000,8000 grit shapton kuromaku stones. I used the 1500 stone for the initial edge and worked through my stones in order. By the end of the process, I had a razor sharp knife. Using this stone to set the edge at the beginning (1500 grit), made all the difference to the final outcome.

Excellent quality
Excellent quality and a good polishing stone you don't need higher with a strop and compound. It may say medium but this is a fine stone and value for money compared with the higher priced 16000 glass bottomed stone at nearly three times the cost.

True grit high quality stone!
Shapton quality. That says it all!!Very good stone as you would expect it from Shapton. Huge difference after using double sided cheaper stones. This is a true grit so it might be unusual first time you start using it but once you get used to it you will never go back!!If you are into hand knife sharpening and want to upgrade to higher quality stones this is your go to!! Unless you wanna spend the big bucks on a Shapton glass this is perfectly adequate for your everyday needs. It’s slow wearing so you will enjoy using it for a long time.A small downside is that mine had a small bump in it which makes the stone not completely flat. The knife rolls over the bump so it doesn’t sharpen it evenly. A quick flattening with an Atoma diamond plate and the problem is gone! Could’ve sent it back and exchange it but this solved my issue!
