Good (but not great) affordable top mount luggage carrier
Had to write this review because I needed to know the exact height and found conflicting information on the subject - So I just ordered anyways with fingers crossed. The height seems to be hard to gauge due to the raised floor and the rounded top.... but the back profile will fit items 16.25" high on the edges and close to 17" high in the middle. Luckily, this unit does what I was hoping for: Fitting 3 airplane carry-on style suitcases (setting edgeways) and a duffle bag (or 2 if smaller size) with a little more room to space for a blanket etc. From the back to the front, the unit tapers in size a bit to be aerodynamic, So you'll be able to fits items in the Back & Main spacing area to a max of 33"x24.5" and you'll still have room in the front tapered area (roughly 24.5" tapering to 14") x 11".The plastic is rather thin and wobbly while loading up, but gets more rigid when fully closed into the groves (with all locks and clips activated).Note: The unit is predrilled for 22" on center. It will fit more sizes but you'll need a 5/16" drill to tackle it. The maxed out on center measurement is probably 34". BUT if you spanning out the far you might want to also consider the weight distribution (it is rated for an equal 100lbs).For additional security i'd also recommend purchasing 3 luggage locks (for the clips).Overall the cargo unit is a good deal for the price.

May have to drill new holes for your cargo rack. But easy to do.
So far so good. Not big but at least it doesn’t look overly huge on top of my Nissan. Easy to put together. Had to drill a new set of holes for the front as my bars do not adjust. But the directions tell you that this can be done and to use 5/8 inch drill bit. We did and it worked fine and fits well. Will not hold huge items like folding chairs but will certainly hold 7 or 8 mid size bags. We use soft luggage so I think that will work well in this carrier. Seems like a good carrier for the money.

Hold more than it looks like it will
I used this on my 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport while driving cross country. It held two large suitcases plus 4 backpacks full of stuff. I did have to drill a set of new holes in the front for it to properly align with my roof rack but it was easy to do. It held up great for a 7 day journey driving 70-80mph, even in the 115° heat of the Mohave Desert. Take the time to read the directions and properly install it and properly use it and it won’t let you down. Also, we probably exceeded the weight limit with all of our stuff. It did sag a little in between the crossbars but that’s all.

VERY VERY THIN
The media could not be loaded. It does it job for only $170, but it's very very thin. I can take a plastic butter knife a cut through it. Spend a little more money and get a good one.

Lock issues
Locks didn’t work properly without even installing product

Pay a little more --- Eliminate major headaches
Purchased this cargo carrier for a 1200 mile trip from Ohio to Texas for use on a Honda Pilot SUV. Since the pre-driiled holes are fixed, I had to drill holes to fit my roof rack. This information is not included in the product description, but is noted on the installation instructions. The material is very flimsy making it difficult to handle and to align the hinges and the two built in locks. Also to align the top and bottom of the carrier. Pin type hinges on the outside would allow removal of the top while installing and loading. This would make a very difficult job much easier on a full size SUV. Installation dictates inserting u-bolts from the outside upward around the rack crossbars through the carrier bottom, then installing a flat plate held down by thumb screws. This requires holding the U-bolts up with one hand and trying to reach around the top to secure the screw downs. Reversing the process by installing the u-bolt from the top and the screw downs from the bottom where the threads are visible would make installation far easier. Finally the locking system is difficult to use and is unreliable. During the trip, the front lock released causing the lead edge of the carrier to allow water in. We had all of the cargo in plastic so no harm done. Before proceeding, I installed ratchet straps longitudinally and around the carrier circumference in order to secure the top to the bottom.BOTTOM LINE: If your crossbars do not adjust prepare to drill the carrier. I do not recommend for full size SUV due to difficulty installing and loading cargo. Do not rely on the locking system but be prepared to use tie downs to secure the carrier. This unit sells for less than others for a reason.

Does its job!
This cartop carrier has been great. The way it is designed, the top closes over the bottom with an "over lip", making it very difficult for water to get into the carrier. I've driven over 3,000 miles through sun wind and rain, and it has been perfect. My only challenge, and it's because I'm not super tall, is opening and closing the carrier. If I were taller, it would be easy to manipulate the arms that prop the lid open. So the only thing I would improve would be having the arms be connected and open and close on it's own. But for the price, it is a great product.
