The Ink your mamma warned you about
There is no brighter, more saturated, screaming bright blue on the planet. I can journal with Kon-Peki, Faber Castell Royal Blue, Sargasso Sea, and NOTHING screams off the page like Baystate. You can see it for miles. No shade, no sheen, no shimmer, some ghosting on Muji paper, and some bleeding on cheap stuff, just a beautiful shade.NOW! It does stain. Everything. It will linger on your hands for days. It stained my stainless steel sink for crying out loud! But I use it exclusively in the included Charlie pen, which writes great, and is very comfortable if you like a thinner pen. It can stain all it wants to. It's my Baystate pen. It is always inked.

Baystate Blue Fountain Pen Ink w/pens -- another richly colored ink from Noodler's
I have acquired an appreciation for Noodler's... very rich colors, and a wide variety.Baystate reminds of a Federal Blue, very rich without becoming neon. 4 1/2 ounces is a LOT of ink.The included demo fountain pen is another fine writing instrument, literally, as the one I received is an extra-fine, nicely sized, shaped and balanced, comfortable to hold. I had to learn better penmanship as every line the demo made was crisp and clear, and highlighted my amateur form. The dropper fill is not difficult, just be patient and keep a blotter handy in case you are impatient. I have yet to try the 2nd free pen, with a brush tip. Maybe if I got into writing Japanese, this would make great Kanji characters. But I won't.I purchased Baystate after trying the Noodler's Heart of Darkness, a deep, rich black. The pen included was another fine freebie, a medium point this time, that is identical to the Baystate freebie pen, just a wider nib.fwiw: I purchased the Noodler's piston-fill fountain, and disliked it immediately, too small for my average size man's hand, too light, andcontinually scratches. The Noodler's demo pens are far superior, smooth, comfortable. I wish Noodler's sold these demo pens!, or if they do, where to find them?Based on the Baystate Blue and Heart of Darkness inks, I bought the smaller 3-ounce bottle of Navajo Turquoise.I'm pleased with these inks, and the overall Noodler's color choices.Noodler's website provides color samples of their inks, and their list of dealer's and locations for testing the real thing, in good lighting, on proper paper. It's worth a visit. A written description is somewhat subjective, and does not do justice to the samples.

Excellent ink with one important caveat
Noodler's Baystate Blue ink is fairly resistant to water and to bleaching, so it's a good choice for documents. Like all of Noodler's Baystate inks, it's notorious for two things: (1) its vivid color, replicating a 1940s ink, which itself was based on ink used in 18th Century Boston by printers, illustrators and calligraphers; and (2) its pH rating of about 4.5, which makes it significantly more acidic than other fountain pen inks, which tend to have a neutral pH of about 7.0, with the result that this ink can damage vintage and antique fountain pens. Therefore, it's one of the best fountain pen inks for its rich color of blue and its resistance to washing, but also one of the worst due to its acid pH which can damage a pen. Fortunately, this comes with a decent cheap Noodler's Charlie eyedropper fountain pen, which has a fairly smooth medium nib with good ink flow, so you can fill this pen with Baystate Blue without risking grandpa's antique Duofold. Highly recommended -- just know what you're dealing with!

BEAUTIFUL ink, STINKY pen!
If you're buying a bottle this big of Noodler's Baystate Blue, then you've probably already seen pictures of it and reviews of it. I know I did. But hot DAMN is this ink BLUE!Tested it out right away and it is, indeed, waterproof and only feathered on the absolute shite copy paper we have at work.10/10, would buy again (in a few years when I run out! This is a LOT of ink!)It also comes with a free pen, which is pretty awesome!I can't complain about a free pen - it looks a little cheap, but it's FREE, duh! And that's why this has ZERO effect on my rating.THAT SAID: The pen stinks. Like, really badly. I think it's the grease they used, or the grease reacting with the ebonite feed, maybe? But it smells like it was dropped in liquid ass. It writes really well. Seals really well. Holds an absolute butt-ton of ink. I just wish it didn't smell like a butt. XD

Great Ink. Certainly worth a try.
Great ink. Best blue I've seen. Pops off the page. That said, this ink ONLY belongs in a new pen, or one that's been THOROUGHLY cleaned and flushed. ALL non-Noodler's Bay State ink must be removed. As it says on the tiny type on the label, this ink will gum up (destroy?) a pen with other mfgs. ink still inside. It requires bleach to remove a small spill from an easily stained surface. It does wash off the skin. Careful handling, as instructed, mitigates all difficulties and is worth the effort.

Beautiful color
I love the color. Word to the wise - wear plastic gloves when you clean your pen or are filling it up with this color- it will really stain if you don’t. As long as you’re careful you’ll be satisfied with this beautiful color!

Tame the beast of an ink
Baystate Blue, what can I say that hasn’t been said before? It is not a well behaved ink. It will stain things. It will destroy many pen materials, specially latex and vintage parts. But what a colour. So bright. So vivid. So rich. And waterproof too. With all the aforementioned problems I still love it for a ink that is permanent enough to use at work and has this colour. So I can’t put it in my favourite vintage pen. I have dedicated an inexpensive Pali 3013 to it. The demonstrator pen looks awesome filled with this Noxzema bottle blue ink. I’ve never had a problem with this pen and ink combo, but if I ever do the pen was so cheap for how well it writes...In short this ink has issues for sure, but the colour and waterfastness of it are worth it if you need a permanent ink and will use it on legal documents. Just don’t use it in an expensive or vintage pen.

Blue ink but different
Excellent shade of blue ink. To be used on a thick paper

So blue it's almost radioactive
This ink is a beautiful bright cobalt blue, reminiscent of the inks you could get in the forties. It's quite dry so it dries fast. It has zero shading and tends to bleed through on lower quality paper. Don't get it on ANYTHING you don't want stained bright blue. It's worth mentioning the Charlie pen that comes with it - it's obviously no Montblanc but it has an ebonite feed, writes great, doesn't leak and it's free.A fantastic ink and a fun little pen.

Pen is very bad
The ink is besutiful, but the Noodler’s Charlie it came with was horrendous. It smelled horrible and it leaked after about a half an hour of use. Noodler’s are generally considered tinkerer’s pens, so if you’re ok with that then maybe you can fix. But I ain’t about that
