Are the 5mm hinges stiff that it can hold the lid open or are they loose? and the lid falls back down

The hinges are stiff and should be able to hold a lid open, as long as its not too heavy.

I did not receive instructions with the ones I purchased. Where do I find installation instructions?

In chapter 4 of the book, Creative Wooden Boxes from the Scroll Saw, by Carole Rothman, there are detailed instructions on how to install the small 5mm barrel hinges. (pages 88-90)

What's the largest size box these hinges would accommodate? I have a 9x9 square box, 2'' high, sides about 1/2 - 9/16 thick. Is that too big?

I just checked on amazon the 10 mm size is recommended for 1/2 in sides.

What are the actual dimensions of each hinge? The product dimensions in the product description are for the package, not each little hinge.

.72" (18.41mm) overall length. 5mm diameter (.19"). Approx 11mm each side when folded 90 degrees.
