Seagate BarraCuda Pro Performance Internal Hard Drive SATA HDD 12TB 6GB/s 256MB Cache 3.5-Inch (ST12000DM0007)

I was kind of skeptical purchasing this drive because of so many bad reviews. I purchased 12TB version of the drive and it came as advertised. Tested the drive OK. Speeds seemed to be reasonable about 200-250 MB/s. For example 1GB file copied in just 3 seconds! This drive is also very quiet! Pretty much makes zero noise when in operation. I ran a CrystalDiskMark (attached screenshot) I was able to register it on Seagate's website successfully and it does come with 5 year warranty and 2 year data recovery option. One negative cosmetic thing I found about the drive is that screw holes on the drive are not in the same position as any other drive I have ever used! For some reason Seagate decided to change it. There is no middle screw hole so the drive would not fit into my PC drive plastic enclosure! My enclosure had 3 plastic pins for 3 holes on each side however this drive only had 2 holes on each side) I had to break middle pin on my enclosure to be able to insert the drive in it. No big deal to be honest, I did not take a star off the drive for such a small thing. Maybe its a new design going forward?

I only used it for 3 minutes, connected it, turned on PC and a few seconds later i heard a loud TOCK...TOCK...TOCK...that continued until i turned off PC. Returned immediately.

I have been using the drive for over 6 months now and it has been working perfectly. I record over the air broadcast TV shows and have filled the drive to capacity and then deleted files to make room for more several times without any issues. It was very easy to set up. Just plugged it in and then ran a format. Once the format was done I started copying files to it.

This drive literally takes 10 seconds to spin up from an off state and will more or less freeze your computer in the meantime. Great drive otherwise.

Another good product from Seagate, which is not a surprise at all. Noise level is to be expected from a mechanical drive, but Seagate drives have always been the more quiet ones so there's nothing to complain. Due to the use of helium, the drive's build has substantially improved and streamlined, which adds to the aesthetic factor. Fewer crevices mean less cleaning necessary.

This is the Black Hole. And it actually works. No way to back it up, though.

The drive is loud and too noisy. Drive is defragged and reading large movie files it sounds like its reading all over the drive and is distracting. The drive is defragged and only has a few files on it.

I have 2 of these drives and I am totally happy. They have been running for about a year 24/7 with no hiccups no scratching, they just work!. Now I could buy them on a payment plan. Good for me! I've gotten my 3RD EXOS drive back. (5-30-2019) If this one fails in 3 months, I will ask Seagate to replace it with a Barracuda! As far as the headline, if you are 50yrs+ you know what to do when making your purchase!

*Updated review* After 15 minutes of clicking, loud noises and errors with files, it died. Absolutely ridiculous packaging, avoid at all costs. It's a heavy piece of metal wrapped in one tiny layer or bubble wrap being thrown through the post. I have never been sent an item before from a company of any kind that has such awful packaging for the protection of said item, I genuinely cannot tell if this 12TB HDD is so insanely loud of fizzle noises and loud clicks because it's meant to do that or it has been damaged in the shipping process due to this heavy piece of electrical metal getting a small sliver of bubble wrap taped around it. I would not recommend purchasing this if you want confidence in a fully functional drive or a quiet drive. The company needs to spend a tiny bit of money on proper safe shipping packaging. Ridiculous.

Sometimes, there comes along a piece of technology that surprises you - The Seagate BarraCuda Pro 12TB did just that for me. I was surprised at how fast it is for a mechanical drive. It's read / write speeds exceed manufacturer specifications. I'm using this as media storage for my little Gigabyte Brix i3 mini PC, which is hooked up to my TV. The BarraCuda Pro 12TB easily keeps up with fast binary downloads. It's also faster than my 1TB FireCuda (which it replaces). As of this date, I could only find one external enclosure that officially supports this capacity: Mediasonic HDL-SU3 (It's stated on their website). This drive works very well with this enclosure. An option to extend the rescue service to 3 years (USD $15) is presented after registration. I did take up this offer, as I'm using this as a DAS drive (non critical media, but will be nice to recover if drive fails). This drive makes a slight rattling noise at times, but not disturbingly noisy while watching video. I highly recommend this drive.

Drive was very easy to install and setup. Just a note for Mac Pro (Early 2009) owners only 2 of the 4 screws align up with the drive cage however, this did seem to be sufficient to hold the drive securely. Nice to have all that space!

Die HDD wird als neu angeboten. Leider handelt es sich nur um eine gebrauchte recertified HDD mit 3 Monaten Restgarantie. Somit war die HDD offensichtlich schon gut 4,5 Jahre in Betrieb.
