The world we knew is gone. The world of commerce and frivolous necessity has been replaced by a world of survival and responsibility. An epidemic of apocalyptic proportions has swept the globe, causing the dead to rise and feed on the living. In a matter of months society has crumbled: no government, no grocery stores, no mail delivery, no cable TV. In a world ruled by the dead, the survivors are forced to finally start living. Rick. Ezekiel. Gregory. Negan. Each man holds the fate of their community in their hands... and WAR is on the horizon! This volume collects THE WALKING DEAD #109-114, the prelude to ALL OUT WAR―the epic battle that will change the world of THE WALKING DEAD for years to come Review: The brilliant series continues - The latest collection from the walking dead sees Rik and the group dealing with the aftermath of Negus and his brutality and attempting to build an alliance to overcome him and win back their freedom. This story is something of a slow burner but it builds to an exciting conclusion and hints that major events are on the way. The quality and strength of the characters and world continues here and it builds nicely from the shocking events of the last book. We also finally get to see Ezekiel and his cat in action! Another great episode in a brilliant series. Review: Brilliant! - Yet another great instalment of an excellent story. This tale has had me gripped from the very first page and doesn't show any sign of letting go. Really tense story telling that had me racing through the pages quick as I could read them. Really got a sense of fear for the characters and cannot wait for the next issue! Awesome. I must say that I do like the tv show that developed because of this graphic novel, but you cannot beat the original. So, if you've come to this wondering whether it's worth having a look, do yourself a favour and get the first volume and be prepared to be amazed.

Escalation
Volume nineteen in the series of paperbacks which collect issues of the comic The Walking Dead. A very popular series all about a group of people struggling to survive in the wake of the world being overrun by Zombies. This volume is not a good jumping on point. New readers or those who have only seen the tv show should start with volume one. This volume collects issues 109-114 of the monthly comic. As ever it runs all the pages of black and white together into one long narrative, but you can usually tell where each issues starts and finishes. At the end of volume eighteen, Rick and certain other associates began to plan to take down Negan. As the story continues here, they prepare to see that plan through. But they have problems. Who can they trust? And, as they say, no battle plan survives contact with the enemy... This starts by letting a character whom you might have thought was gone for good get a fair amount to do. And it's nice to see them again. Some interesting character interaction follows. With one plot strand you might have forgotten about coming back into play big time. And some interesting character moments for one cast member that could lead to more. But lest you think this is going to be another volume which is just setting up bigger events to come, don't. Because this one does have more than it's quotient of action. And it's the best action seen in this series since volume fourteen. Since you know from experience that none of the characters are safe, there is a real sense of dread and suspense to a lot of what happens. All this and a brief sighting of some zombies, too. Things end with the promise of even more unforgettable events to come. A really great volume in a consistently great series that will leave you desperate to find what happens next.

Thumbs Up!
This is an excellent volume. There is a buzz, a tingle in the air. The excitement of a plan coming together. As the communities prepare to stand together there is a gripping tension that pervades this volume. There are still some nice character touches and the reappearance of someone you may have forgotten about. Kirkman doesn’t do what you expect which is why after all this time The Walking Dead still seems fresh and novel. The art is great and there is the return of the double page spread, one of which is a classic rug-pull. The character expressions are wonderful and there are some really nice close-ups. A great volume that uses tension masterfully and makes you cling on for dear life until the next book. Thumbs Up!

The Walking Dead
Another good volume of the series that hasn't let us down and has been good enough to spawn a TV series and video games, Although one of the games is terrible (Survival Instinct) the point and click ones (Seasons one and two so far) from TellTale games are great, In fact if you like graphic novels and like these Walking Dead ones you really should check out "The Walking Dead" games from Telltale that are available on Steam, It's basically an interactive on screen graphic novel where you get to shape the events to some extent, Things like who dies and who lives, Where you hide, when you run, It was a lot of fun, even for an old man like me. Give them a try, you won't regret it.

This volume is the warning tremors. It is the smell of smoke before the fire
The ground shakes before an earth quake, there are signs and tremors to alert you to what is about to come, this volume of the walking dead does just that. The way the world works now is different, different groups and communities work to gather food and supplies. Then having to give out half or more to one group in particular, who keep everyone in check, who rule by power and with an iron fist (or baseball bat in this case). This volume is the warning tremors. It is the smell of smoke before the fire. It is the path upon which Rick and others must tread to free themselves from the control of these 'said' others, but how will it all fall into place? It is time to begin the 'March to War'.

Fine, just fine
I've not read it, i don't need to read it as ive been collecting the comics for over 6 years and know whats inside this issue and its 5*. I buy these to lend to friends who think the awful (in my opinion) TV show is great and set them on the right path. Good books worthy of shelf space of any zombie/survival/end times readre.

Loaded
I recently purchased volumes 16 - 19 in one order, and tried my hardest to spread out reading them as long as I could. I was done with all four in a week...volumes 17-19 in one day. I just couldn't help myself. I know a lot of other reviewers state that Kirkman's storylines are repetitive and cyclical, but come on, how much variety can you put into a zombie story without it being too unrealistic? In any realistic (or semi-realistic) story, there's going to be a dose of monotony along with all the action and drama. Human beings are creatures of habit; we tend to float towards the path of least resistance and stay there for a spell, some longer than others. Considering that up to this point in the comics, almost two years has passed since the turn, I honestly believe quite a bit of variety has already been introduced into the story - enough to keep me hanging on and grasping at every panel and page. To each his own opinion. That said, I enjoyed Volume 19, and I'm excited to see how the old group continues to integrate new characters and react to new enemies. In the Walking Dead universe, change is integral to survival, and it is coming soon...
