Really impressed
Bought this in case of power cuts and for when the grandkids stay and I have to say I’m really impressed with the build quality. It seems very sturdy and is easy to set up and use. Just plug it in and chose how you want it to work. Light is bright enough but not startling, it’s light but solid. All in all a great purchase.

So far seems really good.
So far, very good. Seems to have a slight tendency to not sit well in the bracket easily, but once in, works really well, and it’s only really for power cut emergencies that you would take the torch out to use.

Great idea!
This gadget is a brilliant idea (no pun intended!). Great at the top of staircase landings in the dark. Also bought one for a guest bedroom to give enough light to find the way to the bathroom at night. It's actually a little bright for that room, but as long as guests know it's there, it can be switched off at bedtime, and they can just grab the torch and use that in the night, if they need to. The torch option is really useful. Have to be careful putting the torch back in the base however. We had a plumber use one to go up in the loft and he managed to bend the plastic "fin" connection bits somehow, so maybe something a little sturdier would be even better. Got it working again, but we've probably weakened the structure now. They're slightly off white too, which makes them look a little bit grubby in the socket, like they're older plastic rather than new, but that's just my subjective opinion. and doesn't affect their usefulness. I'm really pleased with them. As long as they don't stop working after a few months, like so many things seem to do these days, they will prove very handy.

Useful piece of kit
This is an inexpensive piece of kit that will be particularly useful to anyone running a holiday let or B & B who has been asked to provide emergency lighting for guests. To clarify how it works: the torch which fits into the charging dock has a switch on the side. With the switch on it will function as a dusk to dawn nightlight and also come on automatically at full brightness in the event of a power cut. With the switch off it will still charge (as long as plugged into a power source obviously) but the nightlight will not come on and the torch will not come on automatically in a power cut, rather the torch will need to be switched on manually at the time. So what you can't have is nightlight off but torch automatically on in power cut. But that's totally fine for my needs. This looks like it will be a useful piece of kit and great value for money.

Kitchen torch/nightlight
We needed a replacement kitchen torch, this one fit the bill. The quality is a lot better than I expected, with a nice easy to grip shape, very useful for an elderly relative. It can be left on in its charging dock, and used as a nighlight, giving off a low power light, when removed from the docking station going to full power. When used as a torch it provides a decent amount of light, ideal if there's a power cut. Personally I'm impressed at the price and quality.

This does indeed fit a standard uk socket outlet.
My earlier review suggested that the earth terminal of the uk three pin plug which is part of this item was too large to allow the device to plug into a standard uk socket outlet. This was not correct and caused by my not noticing that the terminal had a plastic cover which was removable. Once removed the item fits perfectly and works well. It replaced an earlier identical item which worked for many years before the torch was lost.

Emergency lighting, nightlights and useful pocket torches
These are fantastic and fulfil the criteria of emergency lighting in a holiday let - if left plugged in and switched on at the wall and with the torch itself switched 'on' , while in the charger they don't emit light in daylight/ room light but they are activated when it gets dark. Effectively a rechargeable torch / nightlight / emits light during power-cuts. When removed from its charging socket it is a small but quite powerful torch. NB. If left to charge but with the torch itself switched to 'off' then clearly it won't activate spontaneously in the dark / during power-cuts and then becomes just a rechargeable torch.
