it's average, not "Elite", but when I noticed such toaster at Bloomingdale's for over $200.....

Very basic toaster but you can’t beat the price

After a period of time, this toaster would no longer hold itself in the "down" position. Rather than toss it, further investigation was undertaken. First, the toaster was UNPLUGGED. The four screws holding the base were located and removed, which was tedious since the heads are not compatable with any known bit. A small hex bit did the trick (the screws were replaced with a common type). The ends of the plastic outer shell were forced apart, revealing the innards. The knob and plunger arm are not removable. Upon inspection, near the end adjacent to the knob, there was revealed a flat, gray metal plate which, when in use, came into contact with a set of three electro-magnetic coils. The plate and coils were dirty and cleaned with a Q-tip soaked in alcohol. Upon reassembly, the toaster worked like new. Apparently, this cleaning needs to be done, not often, but whenever necessary. Once the learning curve is overcome, the entire process is easy and requires only about three minutes. As for perfect toast, the toasting process is divided into two parts. Half the toast time is performed and then the toast is flipped top to bottom, side to side for the remaing time. Perfect Toast.

I really wanted to deal with the issues I've had with this toaster since I received it two weeks ago, but after a number of them, I've realized I can't. It sparking today when starting to toast, was the last straw. When I took it out of the box, the push down knob was off the Slider. It was extremely difficult to get that back on. At that time, I noticed that the sliding mechanism was no where near level, with the front sliding all the way to the bottom and the back still halfway up. More on this later. I did read that I should do a few toast cycles with nothing in there to burn off any residual smells. I did 2 of these, noticed smells on the first cycle but not the second. Then I tried to toast some bread. I had to be extremely gentle and intentional about the angle and pressure I used to push the Slider down. The front will go all the way to the bottom yet leaving the back end half way up, it won't lock so won't turn on. I figured out how to manipulate it to be more even and get the back end to lock, but this takes way more effort than should be required on a toaster. I like my toast pretty dark, so I placed it on the 4 setting. It came out black on one side of each piece, and a little darker than what I would consider a 4 out of 7 on the other side. I can only imagine that "toasting" on the 5-7 settings would give you the results of Sharon Weiss's ruined pumpkin pie from Marie Callender. My spouse could not get the toaster to evenly slide and lock. I had to attempt several times to assist. The knob fell off again. Today, when my spouse pushed the lever down, the toaster sparked. I am not in the mood to have marital arguments over a toaster that has been nothing but issues in the two weeks we've had it, so we are done with this toaster. Sadly, I wasted $15 after I scoffed at $50 toasters. I probably still won't buy one of those either, but I would have been pretty close to that purchase price had I not wasted the money on this one, considering I'm going to have to get another one that is a few dollars more now anyway. Buyer beware.

It's pretty good, not sure how long it will last. I chose this because of the size and price and I am happy with the size and price. Several minor things I dont like. 1) the cord is attached towards the front, which limits how far from plug it can be and makes cord more visible than necessary 2) when it pops up it ejects my toast onto the counter making crumbs to be cleaned 3) with my GF bread seems i have to do it twice, once at 3.5 and then again at 2 setting, otherwise it gets unevenly browned/burnt on 4 or higher.

My 16 year old son recently started to like toasted bagels but we had a regular toaster. You know how tough it is to toast a bagel in a regular slot. And he has a Mama who does not buy a nifty new thing just because he wants to easily slide the bagel out. Poor kid. He lost the campaign for a new toaster. Anyways, there I was, toasting up some bread for Chipped Beef on Toast (yum!) and I heard a zap, smelled smoke, and saw the briefest of flames come from my 25-year-old toaster. Yikes! I pulled the plug and hit Amazon, ready to give my son the toaster of his dreams. This was/is perfect. We discarded the old toaster and broke out the new one …. A couple bagels later, we know it was a most excellent purchase. Simple, white (we have nothing stainless in our kitchen), wide-slot, excellent at toasting bread AND those bagels for the always-hungry teenager in my life … perfection! No bagels were harmed in this process. We may have used a baseball bat on the old one … I did mention I have a 16-year-old, right? And he does like to destroy things …

This toaster only just started wearing out after 4.5 years of daily use!!! It actually still toasts great, just the plastic around it is starting to look melty. If you're looking for an inexpensive workhorse with a small footprint, this is your toaster!!

This toaster got 5 stars but the slot is nice and wide but it could be a bit longer. It works great for our solar off grid system! You couldn’t be too rough with it as it is a bit light. So far it does exactly what we need it too
