M60 Main Battle Tank
This is an excellent reference manual which was very helpful to our museum concerning our Tank on display. We are abel to answer many questions posed by visitors by refering to this book.

Recommended if bookshelf space is at a premium
Concise discussion of the vehicle. A handy overview (as Osprey books are) but worth the money. Recommended if bookshelf space is at a premium.

Scanty information about combat performance
The M60 tank is one of the most important tanks in the U.S. arsenal, having served from 1960 to 1991 in the U.S. Army and Marines. It was used extensively by Israel in the Arab-Israeli War of 1973 and Lebanon invasions; it was used by the U.S. Marines in Gulf War 1991, where it battled T72s of the Republican Guard. I wanted to know more about the combat performance of the M60; the armor penetration of the 105 mm (esp. the new sabot APFSDS round), and the adjustments to the chin armor protection as a result of combat losses suffered in the 1973 Yom Kippur War. The authors (R. Lathrop and J McDonald) supplied none of this information which I wanted to read about. They went overboard on the development of the M60 and the Reforger exercises. They also had several pages devoted to "Life with the M60." Who cares? Please supply more information that all of us armor enthusiasts desire, the actual combat performance of the M60 and how it fared against Soviet tanks such as the T54/55, T62, and T72. All the pages that were devoted to "Life with the M60" could have dealt with how the Israeli Army upgraded and uparmored the M60 to make it a viable fighting machine for the 21st century. The only redeeming part of this book were the nice colored plates and illustrations done by Jim Laurier. Otherwise, this book is sorely lacking.

M60, a commander's remembrances.
Having commanded am M60A1 at Fort Knox during the mid 60s it was fun to renew an old friendship. The smell, vibrations, the sound of the tracks and the fury of the main gun firing brought back many good memories. Once a track driver, always a track driver as the saying goes. The book covers the history and development of this fine machine including its use in the mid-east wars of the last century. It is a good book for those who do not wish to go into the subject in detail and is a good source of pictures and data for modelers.

General overview of the development and variants of one of the main Western MBTs from the Cold War
The book follows the general 'Osprey New Vanguard' format in giving a very brief but fairly balanced overview of the M60 MBT. Following a general background and development section the book goes into production, testing, use / life with the M60 - a section that was quite insightful and extensive, the new versions in the 70s and has the standard collection of pictures, colour plates and a collection of further readings. The versions covered are the M60, the M60A1, M60A2 and the M60A3, while little is said on the more extensive, later upgrades (the M60-2000 with an M1 turret being mentioned) - something to be expected given that the book more or less finishes its coverage in 1991.While a list of foreign operators is included, the book does not really provide any details of the tank's operational use, neither with the US forces nor with the foreign operators.Still, a good first overview of the tank's history and development, with the added bonus of a fairly extensive coverage of operational features (and of conducting Cold War exercises in Germany).

Good service from Books etc as first copy posted out when missing.
Excellent service from Books Etc, the first copy of the book didn't arrive, they responded well, confirmed my delivery details & sent out a new copy.Regarding the book, it is slightly disappointing for an Osprey Publication, totally concentrates on US usage of the M60 tank, very little in it regarding overseas usage.
