Just what I needed

I purchased this unit as the 13-amp charger unit wasn't sufficient to fully charge the van for the next day and I didn't want to have to go and sit at Tesco for 2-3 hours every day!I looked at smart units to (try to) qualify for the OLEV grant but realised that the additional cost of the smart unit AND the cost of installation would have been more than the grant!Simple enough to install with one major caveat ... it must be connected to the non-RCD side of the consumer unit or it will keep tripping the consumer unit RCD ... the installation instructions are absolutely useless and make no mention of this, when I called the supplier they were useless and told me to contact my installer!I've now been charging my work van for 3 days without issues and no longer have to worry that it will be fully charged in the morning.UPDATE: No longer so reasonably priced ... 40% increase!

The EV unit case is made from high quality plastic and is sturdy in construction. It is easy to mount on any vertical surface for internal or external use. One thing to remember before mounting, the front cover is attached to the components in the back section with wires so it requires an extra pair of hands to support it so you can mark the wall fixing holes. There is plenty of room for the cable entry hole which has to be drilled in the back part of the unit.Being a retired electrician of 20 years I was unfamiliar with the current Regs on EV installations so after viewing several video tutorials on u-tube I purchased the model with built in RCDO protection for A/C and DC earth leakage which is the recommended type to comply with the IEE 18th edition.Although my BMW330e PHEV only takes a max of 16A when charging I have future proofed my installation by buying the 7.2KW model which most all electric vehicles need for charging.To conclude I can recommend this EV unit without hesitation for build quality and value for money.

Fitted the unit to the wall myself, ran the cable and fitted a isolator switch, but used a professional electrician to complete and certify the installation. I had to buy a PEN unit to fit next to our consumer unit on the advise of the electrician, The unit looks ok when in place, and has worked almost daily for two months. If you buy one, throw away the cardboard template supplied to assist with fitting - the position of the mounting holes on the template do not correspond with the actual mounting holes on the case, The case itself is quite flimsy, and this seems to be born out by the availability of repair kits on the internet to replace damaged mounting pillars on the inside of the casing.

It does what it says on the tin. Iwould like some metering but did not wish to significantly pay more.This unit replaces a previous tethered unit with 5M cable. I needed a longer cable to reach both cars in my garage whether charge port was to front or rear of the car.Also, I think this maygive me a greater ability to help visitors with an older Nissan Leaf which does not use a Type two plug. I bieve the nontethered or system without a permanently attached cable is more flexible.

The charger is a no fuss basic charger, just plug in and disconnect when the car is charged.No wireless or phone connection.

Simple to use with built-in trip switch.
