Libéron Fine Wood Stripper for Paint & Varnish Removal, 500ml

I use this for stripping old gun stocks and so I cant really say how good it is at other things such as paint but its great for what I want. Generally my stocks are about 150 years old and they have a mix of oils, stains, and dirt etc and this really gives a even finish. I dont really go too deep as im not after quality etc but you can really see the difference. Plu I use it in the house and it doesnt make me ill. It has a distinctive smell but I feel that its quite harmless. It doesnt run and works in 30 minutes. After the wood is a little damp and so it needs to dry out but by the next day you can sand it down. I tend to use 2 coats. Im not sure what other strippers do and maybe they do the same thing but I have not been displeased with this. Because im not taking a think coat of paint or varnish off there is little to get rid of but I use dishwashing scourers to clean the gook off after. I do the work in the kitchen with a rag on the floor but really, its not splashy or runny and after I just wash the brush under the tap and its good for next time. I give this 5 stars as I actually enjoy this part of the job, I really feel like I have the right tool. I do recall that it came in super over the top packaging, I think it had several wraps of bubble wrap which is good considering its a chemical. It took me a while to figure out how to open it. I thought you pulled up the flap handles and pulled a spout up and out like on oil cans but all you do is unscrew it. It makes a ratchet sound which is what made me think I was doing it wrong. I dont think the price is too much but considering the age of my items I didnt really want to experiment with cheaper alternatives. Its prety thick and I can see this running out quick if your stripping big things but its lasting plenty for me.

I used this to strip a small antique carved stool which had been stained , badly , with a deep ebony stain or varnish. It works well, but I did have to use liberally and more than once for each area, just reapply , it was time consuming but didn't mind that, think it would work even better on a flat surface area. I used small sculpting tool to get in between the carvings to strip it after application.

Perfectly and kindly removed old varnish from an antique towel rail. I applied this with an old toothbrush it worked very well, I cleaned and removed it with white spirit and then finished with a light sanding. It's done an amazing job, I highly recommend.

It works well at removing varnish from veneer. Nice and gloopy so no idea why people are saying it is thin. Strong smell so ventilate well as VOC high. But the top. Aaargh. You have to pull the two red rungs up to create a mini handle then pull the whole red thing up again that pulls out spout. And then screw the red thing off. It's just a ridiculous piece of overenginnering. Two stars off for that. Put a normal screw cap on.

I’ve used a cheap paint stripper for wood furniture before and it was terrible, so decided to try this on a wooden chest of drawers I am upcycling. Was not disappointed one bit! On a heavily detailed area it completely got rid of the paint within 3 coats. The only con I would say is the smell, it’s extremely strong. But would absolutely recommend this, worth the money!

Total waste of money.. I put whole box on only one side of door and it didn't work even there even after using very generous amount. It keeps drying itself instead of melting the paint.. I m regretting to buy it

Great product - I’m stripping vanish off a table, the only thing I would say is that it’s very hard to open - you have to be very strong to pull up opening up to open it! I certainly couldn’t do it - my husband came to my aid.

I read the instructions and had the time to do the job. I have a small dark varnished orphan from a nest of Ercol tables and I wanted to take this beautiful elm table back to its natural wood colour. I applied a thick gel coat to the underside first (after shaking it thoroughly) and left it for a half hour in a warm room. Time and a bit later I carefully scraped the dark varnish away with an old bank card and was amazed at the beautiful wood grain it revealed the top was treated in the same manner, with the same result. The table was wiped with white spirit to neutralise the gel residue and is now drying for 24 hours ready to be finished, probably with Danish Oil.

Stripping down a gun stock............ 2 applications to bring it to clean wood ............. used Aqua-fortis on the stock,.... along with heat gun and some other staining liquid ....finish to stock ....I am pleased with.
