DEWALT 20V MAX Laser Level, Cross Line Laser, 3X360, Green, Bare Tool Only (DCLE34031B)

As a long-time diy (though I started as carpenter at 16 years of age) this seems like a good, solid, basic unit and not at all fussy in use. While I have generally gotten along fine with 'old school' tools; levels, string, etc., I decided on this to help me through re-building a second story deck after struggling a bit with details on rebuild of a larger first floor deck last year. It is easy to set up and operate and I favor the compact design with battery below the unit, but I do miss fine adjustment features. For that if aligning to a particular target careful adjustment of tripod location or choosing mounting bracket location gets the job done for now. For either situation shop made improvisations have occurred to me. I am using it with a solid tripod otherwise used with optical equipment with a very smooth head which helps considerably. The green line is difficult to see in bright June sunlight (expect red would be impossible) from 8 or 10 feet away but projects a considerable distance in the early morning/evening, so establish reference lines then and proceed from there. For indoor work I can foresee no issues. I have no real way to assess accuracy apart from comparing with the traditional tools, and given those I am confident it is right on target.

I owned 089 red laser before this one. This is brighter than the former. But dont expect easy readings at bright sunlight outdoors. The included green target card helps to spot the laser light, though with difficulty. Another plus is the 20v platform. I would love to have an adjustment knob, but the price of that one was some 150$ more than this one. Since i was already used to adjustment on red laser, i decided to save and got this one. Overall im happy with this laser. The adjustment knob would make this perfect.

I've used countless lasers going back to the ones with alligator clips you hooked to car batteries in the 80's. Of all the rotary, dot, and line lasers I've used this is the first one that pegged dead accurate right out of the box. I checked it first thing to see what I had to work with and was hoping for an 1/8 or less at 40 ft. but it was dead on.

It's quite pricey but, a great tool. I've been using it at work to do everything, lay out floor plans, set studs, frame ceilings and hang drops. Having a rechargeable battery is a huge plus and the green laser makes life easier aswell.
