Sulphur Convenient Candles

At first I thought this smoke candle would be too small for my greenhouse but I was wrong. It was easy to use and worked really well. It burns for a long time, producing plenty of smoke. Day after there was a slight smell but gone within another day or two. Worth the money.

Got it burning only after a 2nd attempt using a blowtorch to light it. Using a long flame gas lighter didn’t get the wick burning properly and only gave off wisps of smoke before going out. Tried again the following day with a small blowtorch and it worked. Greenhouse fogged up properly on the 2nd attempt and did the job.

Expensive as it takes 4 to cover my greenhouse. However they are very effective and leave the area clean before starting seeds away. I use these every year as part of my pre planting set up.

This worked a treat. I had a bit of scepticism when I read the negative reviews, but I found it easy to light and it blasted the whole greenhouse of bugs and nasties. Great for end of year product to use before winter sets in. Stinks a bit though.

Works well! I got the top going nicely with a blowtorch then left it to fume away and annoy the neighbours. I prefer this smoke bomb to a fumigator (such as the Vitax), but some folks do find that some bare metals get slightly attacked by the sulphur dioxide smoke (=sulphuric acid when combined with a little humidity). I like all the smoke it produces - looks convincing. Contrast this to a wash down with Jeyes fluid where the modern version is colourless and lacks the authentic phenol smell. A product has to *look* like it is working!

Had greenhouses for over 40years and used sulphur bombs every year in them. I lit this product at 5pm on 3/4/2023 on solid paving floor of greenhouse, checked if OK at approx. 6pm, all seemed to be working, smoking well. My wife went into kitchen to prepare supper and looked out of window to see the greenhouse on fire burning violently. I went out with hose pipe and it took 1 hour to douse flames and another to dampen down completely. The fire has destroyed the greenhouse and contents together with a storage box and large water but. I estimated total damage to approx.£950.00. Can I claim for this damage, help would be welcome. This is the first time I have used this particular product.

NB - review is currently not for product and when product is used I will re-review. However, it arrived with a large sticky label attached to the tin, having the product name (exactly as produced on the front of the tin itself - "Battles Greenhouse Sulphur Candle 225g") and a barcode printed on it. A label that could have been stuck on the base of the tin, I thought, until I eventually got it off to discover it replaced a minuscule barcode beneath. Sadly, someone (at the product end, not Amazon, it later turned out) decided to print it overly-large and stick it over the area of the tin providing the instructions for use and safety warning. And it was not one of those easy-peel labels that just comes off, it was one of those labels that only peels off its surface layer and leaves a thin layer of paper and adhesive stuck on the tin. Scraping and a little solvent worked ok, but it may not always. I contacted Battles by email to advise them re this problem and, very impressively, within an hour I had a set of emailed instructions/safety warnings in my inbox, and now they are aware of the problem let's hope it is fixed. Anyone with similar issue can email to the contact address on their website and instructions will be sent, I'm sure. Once it warms up a little and I can clear the greenhouse of plants, I'll set it off and observe the results.

Die Beschreibung ist leider nur in englisch, aber dank Google soweit alles verstanden. Es gequalmt die ganze Nacht, es hat gestunken die ganze Nacht - die paar Altpflanzen, welche ich zu Testzwecken im Gewächshaus gelassen habe, waren am nächsten morgen nicht mehr wieder zuerkennen. Insofern ist zu hoffen, dass es seinen Dienst verrichtet hat. Das Ergebnis sehe ich in den nächsten Wochen und Monaten.

Leider keine deutsche Gebrauchsanweisung, nur englisch. Nach Anbrennen des beiliegenden Papiers in der Dose ver-brannte das Pulver bis zum letzten Korn. Qualmentwicklung sehr gut.
