Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist [Blu-ray]

One of the best Street Fighter movies out there
As an avid Street Fighter fan, this is awesome. It is the origin story of Rui and Ken and how they are training by Gouken in the art of Ansatsken (Assassins Fist). You see all of your favourite super moves like the hadouken, shoryuken and hurricane kick and how the pair learn these abilities. The story develops Akuma and his origin.Highly recommended, very well made.

We all love a really good fist
The media could not be loaded. Since I knew nothing of this series/movie before sticking the disc inside my PS3 I could only hope that would be better than the awful 1994 and the super-awful 2009 movie (which very few people know about). Live action has never been kind to Street Fighter, but Assassin's Fist wisely strips the expansive cast of characters down to a handful (let's be honest, Blanka and Vega/M. Bison/whatever are never going to look believable outside of animation) and focuses on their lives and motivation.Ryu and Ken train with their master Gokken in the lush Japanese forest and are forbidden to use Dark Hadou - a form of Ki which corrupts the soul. Gokken flashes back to his early life where his brother Goki submits to Dark Hadou and is banished from the dojo before retreating to the mountains and evolving into Akuma. Sounds thin, but the 156-minute run time allows the characters to really develop and breath at a more natural pace. Even without the Dark Hadou story this would be a fun film just watching Ryu and Ken train and interact. For a Street Fighter movie, for a video game movie, and even for ANY movie at all the depth of the characters and the connection to them is layered and meaningful. I was so surprised by how much they were able to pull off with such a small budget and cast. The locations and photography are beautiful, and it adds immeasurable production value. Assassin's Fist takes you to places that you don't normally see in movies and probably won't want to leave.I will admit that the episodic nature of it does kill the momentum a little bit with the multiple fade-out/fade-ins, but it's a small gripe and honestly the only one I can think of. Assassin's Fist stands along with the Street Fighter II V as the best incarnation of these characters and this universe. I urge all fans to check it out.The Blu-ray looks absolutely beautiful in 2.35:1 1080p. I suspect that it was shot in native 1.78:1 and cropped to a wider aspect ratio, so perhaps shooting anamorphic would be a logic step for the next installment, but it really, seriously looks wonderful. The Dolby TrueHD 2.0 sound is quiet yet immerses you in the story as it is never obnoxious or overdone. Extras are plentiful. The Steelbook looks very nice. The art cards inside also look pretty.

A must see for any SF fan or video game fan
I stumbled across this one weeknight with a 6.20am alarm ready to wake me in the morning. I saw it was over two and a half hours long and thought I would drift off to it, yet I was instantly impressed with the characters, settings and the storline. This film had me up way to late and the moment we got to a particular fight scene I knew I was going to be tired the next day as it brought me back to childhood and the anime movie of the early 90's.The choreography was spot on in terms of impact and combos and it really played in to the characters true story line in a deep and meaningful way. This was made by true fans and it shows.I had to tell all of the guys I knew would like this film the next day to watch it, no matter what they had on for the week as it was that impressive.Granted video game adaptions are usually pretty poor/trash, and that could warp my perspective to a degree. However I feel that as a movie, and standing against all movies I access on Amazon Prime that this is a genuine quality title and one that needs to be viewed as a solid British made film in the broader sense.Well done to the guys for putting togetehre a true gem and take your time to produce another and make it as impactful and true to the story it is derived from as possible.

Tremendous martial arts adaptation of a much loved fighting series.
There's video game adaptations then there's Streetfighter: Assassins Fist. This is how to translate a video game to a movie; this is how its done; this is the benchmark for all to follow.Admittedly, I stumbled across this on prime with 0 expectations. And yet after a mamouth 2 plus hours running time it lingered long in the memory. Not just a remarkable adaptation of the beloved fighting series but the film is a solid, thought provoking martial arts film in its own right. As the film picks up pace you can't but help care about the characters...but when the film's star attraction is in fact the 'enemy' Akuma (and his backstory is told beautifully) - you know the director is onto a winner. Interestingly the fella that plays Akuma is the also the films Director. He also starred in The Bourne Ultimatum, so you could tell he gave quite a bit of thought into how the fight scenes should play out. It's eautifully shot, a tremendous effort and in a nutshell worth a watch.Sad that nothing has come of a sequel that was to be in the World Warrior. That would be a perfect title for a follow up. A shame.

Hadouken!!
I was very speticle when purchasing this, I heard it was released ages ago but didn't want to be disappointed seeming I been a massive fan of street fighter since I was child I have all the films and series... However I finally purchased this to give it ago and from my point of view it's good they got ken and ryus friend ship slightly down to a t which could of been defined alittle more, I was impressed with how they pulled akuma off, was really impressive and the story is good, I would of gave it five stars but I believe this film is way too long hitting 2hr and about 45mins, it seemed to repeat a bunch of points it made already over and over again. When you thought the film was going somewhere all of a sudden it would stop and revert back to story telling. Very good tho considering this and the fact it's a big build up to something that never happens which I felt very dissapointed about, all though seeing 10,000 fists in action was pretty good and prob my favourite small fight in this film.If you love street fighter give this ago defo worth a watch if you got a few hours spare
