One Is a Snail, Ten Is a Crab: A Counting by Feet book that makes learning to count fun for 3-5 year olds : Pulley Sayre, April, Sayre, Jeffrey, Cecil, Randy: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Great teacher buy - Great teacher buy for early years number work. I use with numicon shapes and print out the different animals to go with them. Works well for small group interventions. Review: Absolutely brilliant - I teach reception and we use this at school (also in Year 1) the kids love it and it inspires them to really get their teeth into some tricky maths in a really fun way. Great for addition and subtraction and number bonds, as well as independent problem solving. If I could give this more stars I would.

Excellent teaching book.
I would really recommend this book for KS1 teachers. It provides many opportunities for problem solving, making target amounts using the animal feet, and also provides an introduction for multiplication. As a mum as well, my children also enjoy it as a bed time read!

Perfect
Great maths book. Great way of looking at ‘one more’ but also talking simply about a snail having one foot! It’s been perfect for my nursery class, but can imagine being great for reception, and year one also, with its use of counting in 10s, and simple addition.

Educational and fun
It's very popular and subtly teaches counting in groups of 10 etc. My daughter enjoys it and asks for it to be read to her frequently.

This book does a great job using familiar animals (people, crabs, snails, dogs) to count out numbers from small to large, showing how the small numbers make up the big numbers. Colorful, engaging, and a bit silly, with quality math content, especially for a kid who's already into numbers (or crabs?)
