Figure It Out! Drawing Essential Poses: The Beginner's Guide to the Natural-Looking Figure (Christopher Hart Figure It Out!)

Great so far
I'm really pleased with this purchase. I've recently decided to tackle figure/life drawing having messed around at other subjects over the years and, frankly, having been hugely intimidated at the challenge of drawing people well. This is not really a life drawing book: as it says, its not going to show you how to do nudes or figures draped in assorted curtains etc. But what it does extremely well, for a tentative figure artist, is get you to do the basics well so that, sooner than you'd think, you are creating faces and figures in realistic and lifelike poses. Which is actually an enormous confidence builder before you maybe then decide to go on to something like formal life drawing. Meantime, people who want to just draw figures, real or imaginary, for say basic illustrative or fashion purposes - or maybe manga too which it also mentions (although the figures are not really manga styled) - this is pretty much ideal. What I especially like is that the drawings are both inspiring to copy but also instructional in areas like getting you to understand posture and how the body naturally falls into this shape or that so that you can then replicate it simply, but well. Not many books I have encountered both illustrate and instruct so well. Great value for money!
