My third KB 740 in eight years
This is the third Logitech illuminated keyboard I've bought since 2011. They are good-looking, (fairly) robust and loaded with useful features such as the facility to disable caps lock via the Logitech software. I don't touch type and often work at night, so the illuminated keys are a real help as they allow me to work in low light. Although the keyboard is expensive, it is very well made with super-quiet keys and excellent fit and finish. If you ever have to take it apart (I'll come to that), it is easy to remove the back once you realise there are four screws beneath the product labels on the underside as well as the ones that are visible. Inside, there's a sturdy metal chassis for weight and rigidity. Compared to the 2014-bought one it has replaced, my latest KB740 has much quieter keys, especially the spacebar. I'm not sure whether that is due to design or because the old one had been hammered hard for nearly five years. Another welcome difference is that the 2014 item cost 35% more than the 2011 one (£69.99 vs £52), whereas the price of the 2019 one hasn't changed since 2014. While the keyboard is definitely robust and will stand up to several years of hard use, I would make one observation as a left-handed user. As I use the mouse with my left hand, the heel of my right hand tends to rest on the right end of the built-in palm rest when I'm not typing. Duh!, you say. That's what it's there for. However, the rest is made of fairly thin plastic and eventually it can crack where the non-mouse hand rests. Since the circuit board and usb/power connector are beneath the right end of the rest, you eventually end up getting intermittent disconnections. Thanks to it being user-serviceable, the problem can be fixed for a while with superglue but eventually the connection gives up the ghost. That aside, it's a great keyboard and good value for money at 26p per week over five years considering the amount of use I get out of it.

Excellent keyboard, thin, with very soft keys and a very subtle, ergonomic design.
I have a chronic back problem so having a well designed keyboard is key for me. I have tried a large number and this one is by far the best for the following reasons: 1. Very soft, easy keys that are not too high. You don't have to exert much pressure, the keys are very comfortable and do not tire the muscles in your fingers or (more importantly for me) in your back. 2. Very thin, ergonomic design: the keyboard is not just less than 1cm thick, it is also very subtly tailored so that the wrist rest meets the wrists gently and the keys are then slightly recessed, so that the fingers 'fall' on them naturally. On many keyboards the keys are on a slope from the wrist rest, and that creates strain. 3. Very comfortable wrist rest: it is soft touch, which makes a huge difference. It is also angled to perfection. 4. A good 'Del' key. Too often this is just a small key. Here it is large, about the same length as the 'Enter' key. If like me you touch type it makes a huge difference, you hit it every time without looking. 5. As I touch type, I can't say that the lit keys are a big plus for me. But the lighting is nicely adjustable. I have tried about 10 keyboards and this is the only one I found I wanted to use (and could use without strain). It is well worth the price.

This is a beautiful keyboard with good backlighting and a nice feel to the keys. The front bezel is pleasant to rest the hands on and slopes down to a very thin front edge. BUT something which I saw mentioned in a couple of reviews is turning out to be true. The key tops very easily become detached and are then difficult to clip back on, and I'm not heavy handed when typing. This is a shame because I love the keyboard otherwise. I've always been a fan of Logitech gear.

Makes typing in the dark a pleasure....
Beautiful keyboard, to both look at and to use. Almost silent, perfectly and lightly weighted spring to the keys, it's a real pleasure to use. The smooth satiny finish to the surrounding areas to the keys make them really nice to rest palms or hands on. Illumination is gentle and perfectly even (each key is lit, or at least they seem to be) rather a blanket light underneath which would fade at the periphery. Gentle orange is used for the control keys at the top. The weight isn't as heavy as some illuminated keyboards I've used, as I always use mine spread across my lap. If there's a downside, it's that it's USB chorded but obviously the illumination has to be powered and the chord, for me, is on the wrong side, near the front right corner. However the chord is of good length and so lessening restriction of movement though it could get tangled round something, I suppose. It's a keyboard to enjoy and take for granted, when you have it - I'd hate to have to go back to those clumpy, shiny and heavy slabs of plastic that I used before - definitely worth the investment, if you can. It makes typing a pleasure, once again. I can't praise it higher, really, can I?

Highly recommended if you like laptop-style keyboards
This is my third K740. The first one gave up the ghost after many years of daily use. I tried switching to an expensive mechanical keyboard, but didn't like the longer key travel or the level of noise. I then bought another two of these, one for home and one for my office. The styling is very nice. Relatively compact for a full-size key layout so it fits nicely on my desk. It is very thin and light, but the rubber feet ensure that it does not slide around. The whole keyboard is gently curved and has an integral wrist-rest, making it very comfortable to type on. It has a white back-light with four levels of illumination (including completely off), so can be adjusted to the ambient light level. The typing experience is very similar to a high-quality laptop keyboard. Key travel is short and I find that this requires much less pressure, and lets me type much more quickly, than a mechanical keyboard. I'm not sure I would describe it as "whisper quiet", but it is much quieter than most of the alternatives. Another reviewer commented that the quality of these had gone down over time. I bought my first one when they were first released, and I haven't noticed any difference in quality with my latest two. In summary, if you are looking for a mechanical keyboard with a positive "click" for each key-press and a long key travel, then this is not for you. If you like typing on a laptop-style keyboard, like a short key-travel, and want a keyboard that looks stylish and compact, then buy one of these.

Working great with a 2010 MacPro
I started off wanting to replace my 7 year old apple aluminium keyboard which i got in Oct 2011 with my 2010 MacPro. I wanted a backlit keyboard too, figured in 2018 there must be options. Googled and say Matius keyboards available soon, instead I got a editorskeys macos backlit keyboard. This was faulty - suffered from double kkey ppresses. Editorskeys didnt refund me my return postage and had the audacity to charge me for the original postage! I was £9 out of pocket using them. 2nd up was Logickeyboards mac os - the keys stopped working after coming back from sleep after the 2-3rd time. Sent it back, still waiting on a refund (3 days after they received it). 3rd up is Apples supposedly 'magic' keyboard which is one of the worse keyboards ive used - too shallow, hurts my fingers typing etc, no backlit oh and £80 more than this! 4th - this keyboard which i would say is 'magical' but 'amazing' Using this with a 2010 MacPro and it does everything a mac keyboard does, although the equals key is not on the keypad (its by the back delete button - no big deal). Backliting is amazing too and really simple way to change it. I just swapped the windows key around with the alt key to match a mac layout. You only get 1 alt / option key versus the macs 2. Think 1-2 other buttons are in different places but these are rarely used buttons. Very nice and comfy to type on with built in wrist support. Its amazing how terrible apples new keyboards are.

A great product, crippled by greed and cost-cutting. If you're a gamer, AVOID!
Years ago, this was a fantastic product. I loved the look and feel of this keyboard, and it was also really good for gaming. Backlighting was perfect, and I loved the font design. Sadly, Logitech have crippled this once almost perfect work/gaming keyboard. It suffers from key ghosting, so if you want to press more than three keys at a time - as you probably would do in many modern games - then forget it! The previous version of this keyboard had no such problems. The build quality although not too bad, isn't as good as the older version of this keyboard. As I write (April 2022) the current UK price for this keyboard is £87, which is a complete and utter rip-off. I will certainly not be buying any other Logitech products in the future.

Very nice keyboard
Only had this keyboard a couple of hours and already I can type faster and more accurately. Fact is I was never a great typist (touch typing is not my thing) but until recently my typing speed and accuracy were wanting, to say the least. I had an old Logitech MK710, which when new, was great but as time went by, the keys lettering wore off and I started to get frustrated at the number of times I had to stop and correct words. Now I am flying through text, like there was no tomorrow. The three stage back lighting is very welcome.. High level is great for my dimly lit studio and at night, it can be reduced. The keys are very responsive and light to the touch and the keyboard size and height are very comfortable. The keys being laser etched, rather than printed, hopefully means longer lasting lettering that won't wear off in time. So in conclusion, despite only having used it for a couple of hours now, I am impressed enough to recommend it to anyone looking for a replacement keyboard.

Excellent clavier, durable et fiable
Excellent clavier.
