A fantastic dramatisation of a terrible event
A fantastic but heart wrenching movie based on true events of the 1996 Everest climbing disaster. A traumatic tale of bad decisions, mistakes and the power of Mother Nature that culminated with the death of 8 climbers in one day.

Dramatic and intense
I was unaware of the real life background to this film; based on fact, it tells the story of Rob Hall who set up a business to take amateur climbers to the summit of Everest. The film recounts the events of an expedition in 1996. It's certainly atmospheric. From the outset, the sense of excitement was almost palpable as the latest group of climbers met and started off on their long trip to the summit. The hectic nature of the organisation required was well portrayed and some of the potential dangers were outlined. The scenery and filming was amazing. A real sense of cold, the tension building as climbers queued and waited in extreme cold to traverse crevasses or negotiate ridges where, for some reason, ropes were not in place. Weather conditions, of course, deteriorated quickly at crucial moments and difficulties became life threatening. There's a true sense of drama throughout, but it's difficult to say it was enjoyable gearing in kind these were real people and real events. That aside, it's certainly an amazing film. My only criticism is that sound quality made it difficult to follow some of the detail of exchanges on the mountain climb. No doubt that's true, but it was difficult to know exactly what was happening to which character at times. Very watchable.

brilliant movie
The 4K transfer and HDR is brilliant as is the ATMOS sound.. It sounds as if you're in the scene, especially the scenes where they climb up Everest during a snow storm. The sounds of the wind howls and swirls around all the speakers.. Also have a decent subwoofer as that too gets a workout.. Also is an enjoyable story be it a sad one.. Based on a true story. A good movie to add to anybodies collection especially to show off Dolby ATMOS.
