Are they big enough to hold vinyl LP'S if so how many

Yes, I've got vinyl in mine, aprox 80 in each cavity with room to spare.

what's the thickness of the wood at the far ends?

It's not wood....it's some kind of fibre board...about an inch.

Can the middle partition be removed so that there is a shelf instead of 2 boxes?

You wouldn't need to put the middle partition while assemblying the unit but then it would be left with the unsightly holes in the horizontal shelf.

It is stackable? You can put together two of them, I mean one on the top of the other?

Yes 💯 you can stack them. I have a 4x4 unit at the base and a 4x2 unit on top of that. Mine aren't bracketed to the wall though. I had them in my apartment for 6+ years on laminate flooring and they never moved. Now they are on carpet, for 3+ years now and haven't moved. For safety I would 💯 recommend the specific brackets that come with it to be attached to both the wall behind them and to the units themselves to prevent harm and or injury. Buy the appropriate Rawl plugs and screws as I'm not certain the ones supplied with this IKEA unit is sufficient. Hope this helps.
