Razor Blade Sharpener

I have to admit at being a little sceptical at the thought of being able to sharpen cartridge blades, but I took a gamble thinking I could send it back if I wasn't happy. I am using Gillette fusion proglide blades which I have paid between £1.50 to £2 per blade depending on deals etc. The blade lasts me around a week of daily shaving against the growth whereupon they start to dull, a few shaves after this and they are dragging and needing to be replaced by the end of week 2. This is easy to use; a little splodge of shave gel and push the blade along the bed 4 times. The is no saying how much pressure you are supposed to put on the blade, but if you press too hard it doesn't swipe. Gentle pressure seems to be about right. I have used this quite a bit now and the blade life has exceeded what I normally would have gotten out of it. First time I used this I had a blade that was just starting to turn. I didn't notice much difference, but swiped it after every shave and the blade sat around the week old feel - still good, but not a fast or easy as a new blade. I wouldn't expect this to get a blade back to peak performance, but I am happy with the results. I don't use it on a new blades as I wasn't seeing any difference, I usually give it a few days and the start swiping it after every use. I am getting around 3 weeks and a few days out of each blade, so I am getting close to double the life span. So I think this will be paying for itself in less than a year. I am more than happy with that. I have found with using blades this long is that the lubricating strip breaks apart, but this is not a problem. In fact I am beginning to wonder if the lubricating strip is just a gimmick as I don't notice any difference with it intact or broken away! EDIT: As I get used to this device, the lifespan of the blade is increasing. I started a blade at the start of November, 5 weeks later I am still on the same blade. I think success depends on shave product used too. I found foams were a bit more clingy and left more of a soapy scum residue behind than gels. The blade needs a good rinse afterwards. Sometimes the blade needs a bit more than a few swipes if it is starting to drag. Finally, don't put too much foam/gel on the block else it may not make contact with the block. Just a little smear, you want the blade to make contact with the block and feel a little resistance as you push, not simply skim over it.

About eight years ago, I gave up on Gillette razors. Expensive and didn't last more than three or four shaves. However for Christmas I was bought some shaving goodies including a Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power Razor Olympic Gold Edition something which I had poured scorn over when it came out. "5 blades? Who needs 5 blades!" However I gave the razor ago and was genuinely impressed at how easy it was to get a very close comfortable shave with. However after a few shaves the blades were dull and I baulked at the cost of new blades. Browsing at Amazon looking at the blades I came across this little wonder. I lump of rubber that claimed with the help of some excess shaving soap to reinvigorate your razor blade and make them last longer. I had to give it a go. For the cost of less than a packet of replacement blades I had nothing to lose. The Razorpit turned up promptly and I gave it a go. A little excess soap on the base and then four stokes of the razor in the opposite direction to that used when shaving. Looking at the blades it was impossible to the tell with the naked eye as to whether anything had changed, whether or not the blades had be cleaned and therefore were going to be any sharper. However as soon as I shaved, it was like shaving with a brand new razor. No tug and pull and a very clean shave indeed. I have now been using the same blade for three weeks (nowhere near as long as Razorpit suggest is possible) but it is still like shaving with a new blade every day. To think that before I bought this I was going to through away the blade that I am still using. Not only does the Razorpit save you money, but it also is more environmentally friendly. A great product.

Works excellently for Wilkinson Sword hydro 5 blades, they really do look "fresh" shine elegantly and the hair and skin debris get removed thoroughly. The Razorpit has made me realize how bad Gillette fusion proglide blades are (DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND CAPITAL ON MODERN GILLETTE!) I tried the razorpit with a proglide blade and I feel the design is so poor on these blades even this great razorpit can't do them proper justice, because the fusion blades are too close together hair can't get properly removed, especially from the corners of the blades. Thus even after cleaning on the razorpit they don't shave well at all. So bad I have thrown my 2 year old fusion proglide out. I think because the Wilkinson Sword blades and further apart and better designed in my view. The cut, clean and indeed last longer. I have been using the same Hydro 5 blade for something in or around 6 months now. Most of that is before I even owned a razorpit of course. What does that tell you. Next stop DE razors!

With Gillette blades costing what they do, this had to be worth a try. I use Mach 3 Turbos (still the most comfortable for me) but only used to get 4-5 shaves out of a blade. I've given this device several weeks of testing before reviewing, even keeping some "old" blades to use on it as an experiment. First up, it doesn't look and feel like something that costs 15 quid. You feel a bit cheated when you first open it - a silicone-rubber and plastic thing which looks like it should come from PoundLand. But... it actually does work. Typically I can now use a blade up to 15 times before it's no longer comfortable - well short of the claimed 150, but still 3 times more than without the Razorpit. For me, that lump of silicone has just paid for itself in 2 months so I don't mind if it doesn't quite live up to the hype. In the interests of experimentation, I've used different shaving products. I find the best results for prolonging the blades is shave gel (King of Shaves), but gel foam was also effective. I like using shaving oil and King of Shaves serum, but I find these better with new blades and less good with Razorpit-ed blades for some reason. Don't be afraid to buy it - Razorpit will save you money. UPDATE AUG 2015 I've now been using this for 3 years and Gillette Fusion ProGlide blades for the past 18 months. I haven't bought too many blades because the Razorpit keeps doing its job - typically I use one blade, 5 days a week, for around 2-3 months. I don't know why it seems to work better for these blades than the Mach 3's, but I'm very happy and upgraded score to 5 stars.

Razor system used: Wilkinson Sword Quattro Titanium. Usage: five facial shaves per week, plus selective body hair twice a week. I followed the manufacturer's instructions to the letter. Oh dear, I so wanted to believe that I would get LOTS of shaves from a Razorpit-cleaned blade, even if the claimed 'up to 150' could not be reached. That figure might be applicable to scraping off a teenager's first soft and fluffy growth, but I didn't expect to get anywhere near it really. Good job. However, I did expect more than 18 comfortable shaves from the same blade. The difference between a new blade and my 18-shave blade is marked, both in glide over skin and closeness of cut, so much so that I have called it a day on the first blade and am now using a new second. Now, I could have persevered with the first blade, to see if I could have got 25, or 30 or more shaves from it, but it was starting to feel dulled, so I have discarded it. The good news is that as I continue to use the Razorpit I will effectively half my blade usage, or if you prefer, save 50% on blade costs, so not all is lost. The item will still pay for itself in a couple of months. If I consider 15-18 shaves per blade as acceptable (and that is a lot more than I used to get) then the Razorpit is still worth the purchase.

I thought it was about time I wrote a review on this. I have been using the "Razorpit" razor blade sharpener for about 10 months now, and frankly I feel a little guilty not telling the world about it. I have to admit to being a bit mean. I actually see myself as someone who likes value for money, but most people who know me shake their heads in disbelief at my reactions when I feel I am being taken advantage of. I guess this is one of those moments... So, I had been looking for a deal on some new razor blades as I was on my last one. It is getting a little tired and I felt I was going to have to bite the bullet and pay the full whack on some new ones. I end up searching online and I discover this. Due to some bad reviews that are leaving me in two minds I think about it for a few days. Anyhow, after those few days I do a quick calculation and figure that this is going to cost about the same as a pack of 5 razors - and if it works then fantastic. So the "Razorpit" arrives a few days later and it doesn't look much. I try it (on my already tired razor) and it feels almost like new again. I have been using it on the Gillette fusion blades - and I have re-used all the old ones that were in the holder that I was about to throw out. Honestly, I know that is mean, but it feels great to get one up on Mr. Gillette after all these years of pushing their prices up. The only razor I have purchased since buying this was some disposable ones that were on offer. I thought that they would be worth trying but I only I managed to get about 2 weeks out of one of those. The secret is in the rear side of the razor. If it is open at the back (rather than boxed closed like this disposable one was) then you can make the blade last a lot longer. There is a minor problem though, and that is this: the Razorpit clears anything that is blocking between the blades from the front end. But no matter how well you rinse the blade after, residue seems to build up at the rear of the blade making it near impossible to use once it reaches this point. In fact, I had nearly thrown them out :) . I have tried poking things with pointed ends to try and clear this, but if you push too hard you can misshape the blades. You really don't want to shave like that. I have found a solution to this though. The other evening my wife was cleaning her jewellery in a machine she purchased ( Blitz Ultra II Jewellery Cleaning Machine with accessories ) and it was giving it quite a rigorous time and was shaking off all the little bits that you couldn't reach normally. Maybe you're ahead of me here, but I asked if I could use it when she was done and put my razor blades in there. I used the little brush supplied and really it could do with being a little firmer for this purpose, but all of this residue came off and the blades are looking like they are going to get another lease of life. Happy days! Anyway, to sum the Razorpit up, I think that this product is worth 5 stars just for what it has saved me already. It is a great idea and one that I wish I had discovered a long time ago. I also think that those 1 or 2 star reviews must have been written by a rather nervous Mr. Gillette or Mr. Wilkinson. They have every right to be nervous too.

Well anyone that uses a razor, and as we know the manufacturers make their money on replacement heads. Previously such replacement heads have been approx £10 for 4 but with the latest incarnations it's now £10 for 3! Like many men I tend to put my used heads back in the pack since new one's are invariably evident by their lubrastrips. So when I took delivery of this item earlier in the week I set about cleaning up some 20 blades, using white shaving foam. I placed the razorpit on a clean piece of glass (shelf from bathroom cabinet) for a little experiment. After cleaning 10 blades a lot of the gunky foam had made it's way to the glass and it was grey when wiped away with a white kitchen towel and this was from the very small hair particals that had been removed. I then shaved with the oldest clean blade and was amazed with the results even without the lubrastrip having anything of consequence left. Given that I now have circa 20 usable blades am thinking that it's probably well over a years supply, so the cost of the item has easily paid for itself. It's a shame that it doesn't do the precision cutter on the top edge but I'll experiment with that bit a little in the coming weeks. A fantastic find and buy and understand why it was the FHM best grooming product of 2011 Buy one you'll not be disappointed!

I bought this thinking it was a bit of a gamble - I couldn't understand how it worked, but was impressed by the claims of how many shaves a razor could last. Unfortunately the gamble has not paid off. In fact, as I'm now paying more attention to the sharpness of my razors I'm actually throwing them away sooner than I would have done previously. There are no redeeming features as the rubber lump doesn't even look good and takes up more room on my small bathroom shelf than the razor standing on end. The lump (as it shall now be known) is supposed to work by cleaning bits off the razor at the end of the shave by running your razor along it. However, I can't even see how the blades make contact as they are recessed from the surrounding frame. You then clean both lump and razor under a tap - but guess what: I cleaned my razor under a tap anyway. This product has been a spectacular fail so far, in fact, I think modern parlance would class it as an Epic Fail. I've tried with Cornerstone and King of Shave razors so far, and will try it on others I have too, Sainsbury's own, Harry's, Gillette, I have them all apart from the Wilkinson Goo, and will keep trying to get one of them to work with it. If none do, I will update this review, but not before the lump is ejected to fend for itself in the local landfill, unless anyone can suggest another use or how to recycle...

Okay I didn't think this would work as well as it did. Even though the idea of 'stropping' is sound you're only doing one side of the blade right? Well, it works better than expected. I am Asian and admittedly don't have a lot of facial hair, but I use to feel lucky if my blade lasted 21 days. This blade has lasted 21 weeks using the RazorPit. Well worth it. At this point I'm wondering when to start a new blade! Now, this blade after 21 weeks of daily shaving is clearly not as sharp as a new blade, but it feels as smooth as day 1. It is comfortable and still is working. Great product, I've since bought 3 more as gifts and highly recommend this. It's not magic, it doesn't sharpen the blade, but will extend the use. Works as advertised.

J'étais sceptique au début. Mais j'en avais tellement marre d'avoir à changer de lames au bout de quelques rasages, à presque 5€ l'unité. Alors j'ai voulu tester ce "machin" malgré son prix non négligeable non plus. Et ça marche plutôt pas mal et j'arrive à faire durer mes lames bien 2x plus longtemps. Et là l'achat est vite amorti. Après un passage sur l'appareil on voit bien que les lames brillent et on sent qu'elles coupent bien mieux. Bonne invention qui reprend le principe de la lanière de cuir du barbier. (attention : ne fonctionne pas avec les lames à grille : W.Quattro)

Lo compre con cierto escepticismo por alguna reseña negativa que leí, pero después de utilizar el producto, no me parecen justas. Llevo 6 meses usando la misma cuchilla y acabo de regalarle uno a mi pareja. No se que esperaba la gente que dice que no le funciona.. a lo mejor no saben usarlo o tienen la barba durísima. A mi me ha funcionado perfecto.

Like many others, I was skeptical about the RazorPit when I first saw it. Based on the many positive reviews and because I got it on sale, I gave it a shot. The item quickly came and when I unwrapped it, it looked like a razor holder and feels like rubber although it is made of a dense silicone. The directions are simple enough; after each time you shave you run the blade upward on the RazorPit surface (with some shaving cream to help it slide) several times and you are done. The process takes about five seconds. This process apparently cleans the blades and removes any deposits left on the blade head, which actually prolongs the life of the blade and keeps it feeling almost new for quite some time. To my amazement, my personal results were as follows: I shave 5-6 days a week and prior to the RazorPit would get about two weeks (10-12 shaves) out of a cartridge. Now after using the RazorPit I get about 2 months out of a cartridge (40-48 shaves). With the Fusion blades I use costing $4/each, that is a $80 yearly savings! Even if your mileage varies a bit and you use different cartridges or get a few more/less shaves out of a cartridge, this item will still pay for itself in a few months time. It is kind of a no brainer; my wife even uses this to extend the life of and increase the comfort of her pink razors. HINT: Use this thing from the first time you replace a cartridge; do not wait until your blade is feeling old because this product does not sharpen a dull blade, it will however help maintain a cartridge and keep it from feeling dull. This is one of the best product purchases I have ever made on Amazon. UPDATE: ...It has been over a year later and I still love this thing. I have been toiling with the idea of chucking my Fusions and going full time snobby, old school single blade but the Razorpit kind of negates the financial benefit of doing that. Plus I figure there has got to be something to the research into creating these multi-blade cartridges because I get a close, nick free shave just about every time...even when I am shaving half asleep. UPDATE 9/2016: This thing keeps impressing me. Still works as good 2+ years later. Still increasing the lifespan of my cartridges by ~400%. UPDATE 2/2021: This thing has saved me over $500 by extending the useful life of my blade cartridges. Scores for my face and my wallet.

Wo bitteschön reinigt dieses Produkt ihre Rasierklingen und erhält deren Schärfe. Beide Effekte sind fast gleich null, sie können höchstens 3 Rasuren vornehmen bevor sie eine neue Klinge brauchen weil sie stumpf wird bzw. die Barthaaranreicherungen die Klingen sozusagen verstopfen weil eben kein Reinigungseffekt da ist. Die positiven Rezensionen sind mir wirklich ein Rätsel. Absolut zu empfehlen jedoch ist der Razorpit "Teneo" der seinen Zweck voll und ganz erfüllt und unzählige Rasuren mit ein und der selben Klinge problemlos ermöglicht (obwohl anscheinend der selbe Hersteller des hier besprochenen Produktes). Einen Punkt oder auch zwei gibt es weil das Produkt eine im Bad schön anzusehende Ablage für den Rasierer abgibt, mehr jedoch wirklich nicht.
