RØDEVXLR Mini-jack to XLR Adaptor,Black

Careful
I bought this for the Rode Smartlav thinking it would work. It does NOT reduce the volts from +48v to 5v as you need to be able to plug the Smartlav into a standard XLR on a PA system. You must buy the VXLR+ (which is about £30). If you use this, it will not work unless you use +48v and if you do that, you will blow the cardiod in the mic eventually. So all in all, the Smartlav, the adaptor and the VXLR+ cost close to £100. There's probably a cheaper option.P.S. I was using this kit to mic up a violin for live performance.

Really good but DO NOT WORK with powered lav mics! Get the VXLR+ instead!
These work great but DO NOT WORK with powered lav mics. I have to buy VXLR+ to make my Giant Squid Audio work, but the are very useful for the XLR inputs on my PCM and audio recorders and desk. The are a better quality sound than the 3.5-5mm converter but they do not transmit the 5v needed to power some lav mics. 48v 24v and other power outputs from desks and from recorders from the H4N make a very loud hissing sound and the mics are unusable. I will still use these but was disappointed a bit (my fault) The VXLR+ reduce the voltage to the required 5-12v from 48v phantom power and make the lav mics sound great. Very good quality other than that!

Should have improved ...
... the lav-mic noise on my Tascam DR-40 as it converts TSR-F (looks like stereo, is 2x mono, as with many lav-mics) to 'balanced' XLR-M. On the Tascam it doesn't 'balance' anything.I don't care whether it works with the "Rode VideoMic" series, as I've discard Rode as a good-sounding option after hum problems (and a buckety sound) on two different NT-1's I tried - depending on preamp configuration.I do care that it's not a slightest bit better than an unbalanced 1/4" jack (TRS-F to TS-M) connection - the price of a converter about 1/9 of this thing. I still can hear the seconds counter of the Tascam. There's still other interference. I don't hear anything but the sound source when using phantom powered XLR studio mics. Phantom-powered lav-mics are a bit outside my budget! It's not the lav-mic either, coz I get the noise with just the plug in - this one or at TS-M jack. I would give less than three stars if I was sure it was this plug (I'm giving two anyway, see below). I'm having to compare the Tascam DR-40 with a Zoom H4N, previous gen, tomorrow; see what comes up. But if the H4N performs noise-free, it'll likely do it on much cheaper jack-to-jack converters as well, because then it'll be the Tascam's preamp; so I'd no longer have need for - now comes the star off, away from 'neutral' - this over-priced badly-spec'd converter - £8, you're kidding? Rode's website is not specific enough "mono" can be TS or TRS (or probably even TRRS, but I don't use smartphones to record with), only the diagram on the packet and B&H in New York really are clear about the converter's actual configuration 2x mono TRS-F to XLR-M - balanced at the discretion of the mixer. I super-simple pluggy-thingy that should not cost the world! So, back to 2 stars, coz I do agree with the reviews that send a strong message that Rode need to get their specs together / do their homework. Not cool!Last, but not least, the lav-mic is not noisy, in the way its on the Tascaom, on other preamps I have flying around here (incl. an old pre-Chinese Behringer), so the Tascam may well go back as well. This plug does not produce added noise, but it also doesn't 'balance' it out. Its online specs are dubious / inconclusive, but correct at B&H. Don't rely on the Rode website. It does connect a mono TRS to an XLR in. Sadly, it just does it badly.

Works as advertised
Using the adaptor between a Rode Filmmaker Kit and Tascam DR-40X. Works perfectly with the existing 3.5 to 3.5mm cable supplied with the kit. No apparent hiss, hum or interference. Lovely clean feed. I have seen other reviews that say that the 3.5mm female on the adaptor has a poor grip on but I do not have this issue and the cable is held snug and is easy to insert and remove. Happily recommend. Photos attached show Rode Filmmaker wireless mic receiver and Tascam DR-40X mounted on 3-way cold shoe using the Rode XVLR adaptor.

It just works, does what I want it to do
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. Feels like a solid piece of equipment, plug and play works perfectly on my audio recorder, did not hear any loss of sound quality. I have made a short video on how I used it hope you like it.I can't comment on the price because I never shopped around, I just read some reviews and thought that's what I need and bought it.

Poor quality for a Rode branded product
Very disappointed - mini jack socket does not grip the plug properly - very loose. Should have taken heed of other reports about this. I could have sent it back but decided to remove the poor mini jack socket (which had to be drilled out !) and then had to cut the XLR body in half to re-solder a proper mini jack to the XLR (I used one with a locking screw). Re-assembled by gluing in an internal plastic collar to join the two halves of the metal barrel (which is lined with plastic anyway). It took a bit of effort but I now have something that works reliably and mates firmly with a Sennheiser screw locking plug.

Nice!
Wow the best adapter of it’s kind that i’ve owned. The others are flimsy and end up breaking. Brilliant for connecting my Rode wireless go to my scarlet interface as well as my zoom q8. Will be handy for plugging into larger bose sound systems too! Brillant and cost effective. Highly recommend

Great bit of kit for the money
A great product, very useful for using slightly more cost effective 3.5mm equipment such as cables and mics and being able to put them into equipment that uses xlr inputs. obviously there is going to be some quality dropoff but form using this i can say the quality is as good as your going to get with using an adapter anyway.in terms of build quality you would expect good quality from rode at this price, and i was not disappointed. the metal construction feels very sturdy and worth the six quid or so paid for the item. the friction on mounting a 3.5mm jack is good meaning it will not fall out or rattle around at all.One of the good points about this is because it is rode you can trust it and its xlr connection feels strong.not much else to say. not cheap but definitely worth the money if you want to use your 3.5mm kit with a xlr input. on a side note is black so blends in with most kit and looks like your kit is xlr and seems more professional than it actually might be.
