Great, but you do need Proxxon power supply.
I bought this to be able to create customized polystyrene packing for a very delicate sculpture that I've made. To cut the polystyrene the way I wanted I needed a tool that could cut it in depth, and this did the job. Now my sculpture is fully protected with handmade packing. The tool is great, it warms up quickly (5 to 10 seconds) and when you stop holding the button it turns off and after a few seconds you can start modelling the wire again without burning your hands. It is very easy to control. The power cable is not removable from the handle and the end plug connects to a different socket than normal power adaptors, so be careful, if you are not an electrician you won't be able to use a different power supply model. You do need to get the original Proxxon power supply. The price advertised currently (June 2014) is £32.95, but I had to pay £61.84 as I added the Power Supply and delivery. Quite pricey but there was no other option, I couldn't find a cheaper one with good reviews.I recommend buying the product and the power supply from the same seller so you save on delivery. Mine came from Germany but it arrived quickly in 2 business days. It also came with a UK Plug adaptor.

Good but no powerr supply with kit.
Does the job its meant to do and well, easy to use, and cuts the foam, the only big downside its not supplied with a power supply, you then have to try and find someone who sells the excessively overpriced power supply. Why not use any 12v DC supply - simple they have put their own proprietary connectors on it, could cut it off - but you then lose the warranty! Absolutely the most stupid design on an otherwise good design.Would have given 5 stars except for this as I couldn't use it when it arrived.Hint - There are quite a few deals about that sell other Proxxon tools with a compatible power supply, that are not much more than the overpriced Proxxon power supply. I went for the jig saw..

Great for styrene cutting
I have there other products and love them, the large table cutter is great but this is so handy for free cutting

A brilliant tool for the job
This has proved to be a good choice - much better than the cheaper battery-operated polystyrene cutters. So far it has done everything I hoped to be able to do. I run it from a 13.8v transformer and after a few seconds it cuts 2-inch polystyrene without any fuss. The adjustable cutting wire plus temperature control are great extras on this machine.

Non eu plug on it
Useless unless ur using a non eu plug socket we tried everywhere to get an adaptor 🔌 for this without success

Polystyrene cutter
Brilliant item, very flexible in the amount of shapes it can cut and thicknesses. Very well made and strong construction. A recommended purchase.

Fine But Requires Special PSU
As a wire cutter, this is very flexible and easy to use. However, beware that you will need to budget an extra 20 to 30 quid for a Proxxon PSU to power it. I tried to use a regulated bench top PSU set to 12V to power it, but it won't function correctly. The internal regulator circuit keeps overheating and tripping out after a few seconds. It will also not work connected to a 12V battery. The official PSU seems to have a very particular output waveform. After buying one, I've had no issues using it.

Hot wire cutter
The Proxxon Thermocut is a very straight forward piece of equipment to use. You do need the power pack to operate the device, other than that it does exactly what the manufacturers claim.
