Q: If my monitor does not have a USB connection can I plug the USB into a power socket?

Hi, yeah it only uses USB for power, and it can be any USB port about (doesn't need to be the monitors or TVs one), the cable isn't very long though so if you don't have a USB port on the monitor you might want to get a USB extension cable to get it to a USB port somewhere.

Q: Is there any difference between models CG4-0003 which Microsoft officially sell in the UK and the Amazon one (CG4-0001) which is likely from the USA ?

I had the same concern myself, still don't know, but played safe and went for the UK model. I was concerned that the USA might be tailored for NTSC.

Q: Does this transfer Audio as well? Looking to plug into an AV receiver for surround sound, while displaying the picture on the tv

Yes, I can confirm that it does transfer audio aswell as video. I use mine for streaming video to my TV and it does also provide sound.

Q: Is it compatible with chrome and windows 8.1

As far as chrome comparability I don't know but it works fine with my Lumias 1520 & 930 running Windows phone 8.1 and my laptop running Windows 8.1
