"On a hill above the valley there was a wood. In the wood there was a huge tree. Under the tree there was a hole. In the hole lived Mr Fox and Mrs Fox and their four Small Foxes. . . " Mr Fox is a very clever fox - every evening he creeps down into the valley and helps himself to food from the nearby farms. Chickens from Farmer Boggis , ducks and geese from Farmer Bunce , and turkeys from Farmer Bean . But now the farmers have had enough, and together they hatch a plan to get rid of Mr Fox for good! But what they don't know is Mr Fox has some help, and a fantastic escape plan of his own... The text in this edition of Fantastic Mr Fox was updated in 2022 for young independent readers. The same amazing Quentin Blake illustrations but in glorious Full Colour!
This is my favourite Roald Dahl book, they are all amazing, but this I keep going back to more than the others. It's such an amazing story even though it's one of the shorter of his more well-known ones. I've just finished reading this to my 5 year old son, I tried to read it to him before but only had a small, black and white illustrated, version which I've had for about 30 years. He was much more attentive and engaged with the story this time around and I think this has a lot to do with the book being larger in size (closer to A4) and full colour illustrations. The chapters are quite short, which is good when reading you your child before their bedtime. There is no 'filler' , just amazing story on every page. You've probably read this book before so know what is about, but if you don't have this larger, full-colour version, I strongly recommend you get it. It's 100% worth it. 😁

Quick, Fun Read for Kids
Fantastic Mr. Fox in the Kindle edition was a nice find to read with my 8-year-old daughter. We both thoroughly enjoyed it, even if the story is on the simpler side. The story of Mr. Fox outsmarting the farmers is ad bit of fun. It’s the kind of book where you root for the clever hero and get a few good laughs along the way. My daughter loved the action and the characters, especially Mr. Fox's tricks. While it doesn’t have the deep, teachable moments of some other children’s books, sometimes a story that's just pure fun is exactly what you need. And at its core, it still showcases quick thinking and teamwork, which are great, subtle lessons in themselves. The book is quite short, making it perfect for a quick read before bed, spread over a few nights. The Kindle format is convenient for me, especially when I need to read on the go or want to adjust the font size to let my daughter read for a while. Price-wise, it’s fair for a Kindle book. Considering that it's a Roald Dahl classic, it was well worth it. Plus, there’s no denying the convenience of having a library in your pocket. In summary, Fantastic Mr. Fox is a fun, quick read that’s perfect for a light-hearted escape with your child. Solid 4 stars.

Very Enjoyable, Entertaining and Funny.
What I liked about this book is that it was very funny. Three farmers (Boggis, Bunce and Bean) want to kill a fox so they grab their shotguns and camp at Mr Fox's hole. Little do they know, the fox they want to deal with is far too clever for them, digs a tunnel right to their farms, steals their food and comes back unharmed (the only part harmed is his tail which was shot off by the brutes). Then they have a great big feast and whilst all that is happening the men are still sitting in front of their tents waiting stupidly for the fox. Also, they meet a few friends on the way. (I won't tell any more because I think I've spoilt too much). Overall, this IS (and will always be) a marvellous, tremendous, fantastic, exquisite book. By Andrew, age 9.

Very Clever Fox Outwits Nasty Farmers
Fantastic Mr. Fox is an interesting book about life in the countryside. Mr. and Mrs. Fox and their four cubs are trying to outwit three horrible farmers. The farmers are called Bunce, Boggis and Bean. They are really, really nasty. Roald Dahl paints vivid pictures of the three of them. Mr. Fox is brave and very, very smart. He works together with Mr Badger, to keep their families safe underground, far from the diggers, shovels and guns of the nasty farmers. Mr Fox dug three tunnels, to each of the farm’s cellars and managed to steal all he could to feed all the animal families! I don’t think Roald Dahl likes the farmers very much, as they get what they deserve. At the end of the book, they are all sitting around the foxhole in the pouring rain while the animals have a great big banquet underneath them. All kids my age should find this book funny and hilarious and not too difficult to read on their own. By Sidonie, aged 6-3/4

A chapter book we finished!
Trying to complete a chapter book with my 7-year-old is usually an uphill battle, but he loved this one! Not only is the story fast-paced with enough action to keep young ones wanting more, but there are also moments that require taking a step back and talking about lessons that can be learned from the text. My son, daughter and I engaged in a long conversation about whether stealing is ever okay. If it is okay to steal in order to provide food for one's family, and whether Mr. Fox should have ever began stealing in the first place. We talked about alternatives to stealing and also about survival. Does Mr. Badger give in too easily? Is he "outfoxed" by Mr. Fox? There's also a point when Mr. Fox calls one of his children a "twerp." My children discussed whether parents should call their children names, and how Mr. Fox could have handled the situation differently, especially when the young fox was being thoughtful to others. Finally, there was the lesson about destroying nature and the effects on the ecological system. A great story with great lessons. This is a keeper in our home.
