An it be used with normal spring mattresses? Will the mattress bend?

I used it with a 10kg cotton mattress (normal , not box type) and it worked.

Does it lie down completely flat?

Not completely Flat, the top half of mattress would be slightly higher due to the frame underneath it. Probably, a big enough mdf or plywood board can be placed under the bottom half of the mattress.

What is the size of mattress we can use it for?

We have used it on regular cot of 3ft x 6ft It is a wonderful product.
