Great upgrade to typical electric kettle
The different temperature presets are great. I can have warm water for my kids without having to boil water in a regular electric kettle and randomly mix it with cold water or tell them to wait until it cools, which never works either. I can also heat water for yeast for bread making. I don't think it's super accurate (I picked 122 for yeast and it heated to 140 according to the kitchen thermometer) but it beats your typical electric kettle and having to wait much longer for water to cool.Yes, it does beep a lot, but if it doesn't beep to let you know it's done, then if you pick a preset temperature, there's no way for you to know it's reached it unless you hover over the kettle like a helicopter patent. So the beeps don't actually really bother me in the end. I thought they would be really annoying, but it's fine. The only major disappointment is the latch that keeps the lid closed looks like it's made of flimsy plastic. Technically it does not touch the water. But it seems like an oddly cheap point in an otherwise nicely made kettle. I probably would have paid a few dollars more for it to be stainless steel because it seems like this part will break soon (since you always have to open and close the lid), but until then, I intend to use the kettle as much as I can!

good design and function
great design and function. Others have buttons to select temps, that will get dirty and mucky. This works great and is easy to clean. No problems after a year plus

Great electric kettle
We use this kettle daily to heat up water for morning coffee and occasional tea. It is quick, efficient, and I quite like the mint green color. I appreciate the various temperature settings and find it pretty easy to use. The only drawback is the lack of beeping when it's reached the desired temp--although, given the annoying sounds many electric appliances make, perhaps this is actually a great benefit. I am just absent minded enough that I sometimes get distracted after I've turned it on and miss when it's ready. But it's never hard to hit the button again and it heats up so quickly, it's really not that big a deal. I also appreciate it's large capacity. Definitely recommend.

Keeps water hot!
The media could not be loaded. I had an old Oster teapot that kept water hot for 24 hours. I loved it but it was time to replace it. When I began looking, there are virtually no teapots that will keep water HOT for more than 2 hours, which is strange as that is so convenient! We have a Panasonic thermal pot, but it boils very slowly, so we use an electric kettle for times when we need water quickly and the pot is empty. This Joyhill kettle does a great job! Others have mentioned that it’s noisy - not more than a standard kettle. I’d say it’s even a bit quieter than my old Oster. The controls are easy to use, press power once and it will boil to 212, or select a temperature setting and press keep warm, and it will boil it to the necessary temperature. Since it keeps water hot, I need to set the keep warm setting once or twice a day, so it’s not a bother to cycle through all five settings to get to 194. It has a large capacity but it’s not too wide. I love that it displays what temperature is the water so I can get an idea how soon it will be done.

Will occasionally heat my water but don't count on it
I was so excited when this kettle came. It looks so clean and sleek, and holds a lot of volume. However, the buttons are extremely unresponsive and when I use the temperature selection function, the temperatures will either not change or skip past the temperature I want. It will also randomly change the temperature I set it to. Even when I do manage to set it to any temperature other than 212, the water does not heat. The only way to get this kettle to heat up water is to use the automatic 212 degree preset option. If you swivel the kettle on the base at all (not even lifting it up) then all of the options you choose change. Total waste of $40 when I could have just bought a cheap kettle that would do a better job.

Better than the desciptions.
Much better than the one recommended by Consumer Reports.Pros:Price is a steal for the features.Shows current water tep.Quicker to heat than my 1200w microwave.Temp can be set 4 options plus 212F.It will hold the Temp set for at least 12 hours. Can be removed from the base for a couple of minutes, and when returned it remembers the settings.Even at 212F for hours, it is not hot to the touch.Very wide opening - I fits my hand for easy cleaning of the inside.Markings inside for minimum and maximum fill levels. All the normal safety features.Tha top doesn't leak when pouring.Good length heavy duty power cord.Well packaged.Cons:The manual is very detailed. And the unit doesn't have a way to have it start in the morning before I get up. But since the water here is maybe not the best, and therefore I typically boil it a long time to get rid of the chlorine, etc. - if I fill it before bedtime, turn on the Temp hold, when I get up the water is just right for a good cuppa and the chemicals have had time to evaporate. So, basically no cons.I am very well pleased with this purchase, and am thrilled at how little it cost compared with choices that are not as good and had less features.

Good boiler but lousy at temperature setting
This is a fast boiler. If you want water at 212 F, this will boil fast. Alas trying to set the variable temp control is hit or miss. According to the instructions, after plugging in you push the button so it rotates through the temps. I found it works about half of the time. I think it is do to faulty construction since pushing the button to get the temps doesn't work a lot of the time. Very frustrating and why I give it low marks on that mark. As I said, great for boiling but not so much for the variable temp. They should make it easier by using the older tech that allowed you to select by pushing a button for each temp. Now looking for a better variable temp boiler for my green tea.
