Osprey Farpoint Men's Travel Pack

Great backpack, after a couple of years of non stop back pack world travel, it’s still in great condition. I use both the straps for carrying and then pack them away in the zip up, fold up, tidy hide away for inside the plane. I have used this as carry on luggage only, never been stopped, measured or weighed in two years, even though it’s compliant :) Looks good and feels good quality. It’s light, and I can carry everything I need and get the pack to 7kg all up. Overall, I’m very pleased with the purchase.The only thing I would change after using this now for nearly 2 years, is that I purchased the backpack with the side pocket for a laptop (which it is excellent for). After travelling for 1 year the laptop got left at home and I swapped it for an iPad. Now after two years, I’m just using a phone for everything. So unless you’re a digi nomad, if I was buying it again, I’d choose the backpack without the side pocket for (very slightly) more internal room for clothes etc.

Pros:It fits a lot more than you first think when you go to load it up.The harness is superb, I loaded it up with 12kg, spent the time getting it right, and happily walked for a few hours without any issues. Osprey know their stuff.The compression straps on the outside are ideal for strapping a small daypack or similar to the back, and a simple carribena ensures the day pack doesn’t slide out.The laptop pouch easily holds my MBP 16” with a thin case on it. I was able to jam both my MBP and an iPad in at the same time, but that was a touch tight.Airline wise this easily fits in the overhead compartment. Even decently loaded you can still scorn at those wheeled cases trying to jam in there as your bag slides nicely in with room to spare. I faced no concerns regarding its size as carryon overhead (not underseat). You can really “sell” it as a regular bag by zipping up the straps and carrying it with the side handle if you’re concerned.Cons:My biggest con is that with the latest changes osprey have removed the second zip for the laptop compartment, which makes locking more difficult. Yes, it’s got a tiny fabric loop you can lock the zipper with, but that’s so tiny it’s hard to use, and it’s even more trivial than a zipper to cut open. In the end locks are for keeping honest people out, and even if there were two zippers a dedicate thief would just knife the fabric around it.The only other bother is I would really have liked there to have been a sunglasses rigid pocket, that protected glasses from being crushed/etc. Other bags have had them, and while it would use precious millilitres of volume, it would have been nice.Many have mentioned, the lack of storage organisation inside as a negative, however I view that as a positive. If they had provided more structure I would no doubt be complaining it didn’t work for me. Packing cubes were invented for a reason.Reason to buy something else: Osprey 55L dual version:If you are wanting to take a heavy laptop for long walks, then the 40 is the bag for you. However, if you’re doing a carryon only load out, and want to do a carryon plus personal item, *and* don’t carry a heavy laptop and/or don’t need to walk a lot, the 55 version which comes with the daypack with its own laptop pocket would be a better choice, since the main bag on the 55 lacks a laptop pocket in the main space and gives you a tiny bit more volume, and you tend to want your laptop with your personal item under your seat anyway.Overall 5/5, definitely would buy again. No regrets.

I took this bag with me on a flight/plane as a cabin bag (to go in the overhead bin). I didnt over fill it but it still had changes of clothes and was full without being stretched. It fit perfectly in the overhead bin on my ryanair flights and finnair flights. Went for a few nights to northern finland to see the norther nights and sleep in a glass igloo and it held everything I needed with ease.The comfort of the bag was surprising too. Ive always used basic school bag type bags, but this is a whole level above. I can see why its used for hiking and things. The side panels that come out around your side are very comfortable but I kept them folded in mostly as I wasnt walking for long periods of time with the bag on. However when the side parts are used and the chest strap, it feels like you're getting a comfortable hug and feels perfectly shaped to the body.I was skeptical and I didnt like the higher price for a bag to take on occasional trips, but I'm very very glad I bought it because the quality is very high and it seems very sturdy. The zips are also silky smooth. It feels like a bag that is going to last me years and that can be used for anything I'll need. Don't buy cheap and regret, buy quality and have a lasting product :)

Awesome quality and finish but rather impractical model. The previous Farpoint-40 had more options.

Perfect bag for training. You can pack into whatever you need for a short journey. It holds on your back pretty well and you can comfortably wear all day. There are small pockets which are on perfect places when you can put smaller things. I’m really satisfied with this bag. It worths for every penny.

This is all you need. Just about big enough for short trips, or trips to hot climates, this is a great bag.I used this bag alone for a 1 month trip to Vietnam and the bag delivered in fine style. You see, the bag is all you need, just enough, without being too big. I had to plan my kit list well, with consideration to survive for a month out of this one bag. And it went well. I figured if I need anything that I have not packed.... I will buy it very cheaply in Vietnam.Other people on the trip were lugging and struggling with their big bags. I really appreciated this one small bag.The feature that covers the straps was super handy on an internal flight with no overhead option. And on bigger planes it was perfect in the overhead locker. You know I must of saved more than the bag cost in luggage fees.... on one trip.Internally it is well organised, and I appreciated the compression straps for snugging everything down.

Been using the Farpoint 40 for a few trips now and it’s easily one of the best travel backpacks I’ve owned. Perfect size for carry-on but still holds loads of gear thanks to the smart layout and compression straps.Super comfy to wear, even when fully loaded, and the straps tuck away neatly if you’re checking it in. Loads of handy pockets too for organising everything.Only thing is the back panel can get a bit warm on hot days, but that's to be expected with any big pack.Top quality build and worth every penny for travellers.

Just returned from 2 weeks at World Cup and this quality backpack held everything I needed for the trip. 7 flights in total between uk, USA, Mexico and Canada and no issues whatsoever as carry on bag. The backpack itself is lightweight enough while maintaining a quality durable product that will last for years. Would recommend using packing cubes as well

Sono stato a Parigi con il Farpoint 40 e l’ho caricato come se dovessi stare via un mese. Quando è bello pieno si fa sentire sulle spalle, ma grazie agli spallacci e alla cintura lombare te la cavi senza problemi.Lo zaino è incredibile per come sfrutta lo spazio: ci sta dentro l’impossibile, organizzato bene (anche se forse avrei preferito una tasca esterna in più per praticità d'uso), comodo in aereo come bagaglio a mano (occhio per le dimensioni, non tutte le compagnie potrebbero approvarlo) ed è super resistente.Non sarà lo zaino più leggero del mondo a pieno carico, ma per viaggiare senza trolley è perfetto. Promosso a pieni voti.

Recomendable para viajes, todo cabe bien y por su tamaño la puedes llevar en la cabina, ropa para 5 días y un par de zapatos o tenis quedan sin problema, además es muy cómoda al cargar: puede ser backpack o como bolso al hombro.

Great backpack for travelling. Spacious and can accommodate a surprising amount of clothing and accessories needed. Able to be used as a carryon for airlines. Comfortable to carry for long distances and great quality.
