- Dagad Phool, also known as Kalpasi or Black Stone Flower
Dagad Phool or Stone Flower is a lichen. It has no taste, no smell and is light like paper. You cannot crush it or powder it - it has to be torn apart like say, cellophane tape. It is used extensively in Chettinad cooking, especially chicken curries etc., and in the maharashtrian 'Goda' masala.

These stone flowers have a pungent, earthy scent and a very strong flavor (a little goes along way)

Infused with fake scent?!
This stuff smells nauseatingly strong. I added a tiny bit to a 4 lb meat preparation and this overwhelmed the entire dish in a very bad way. I literally felt like I was eating meat infused with some cheap floral perfume. Yack! Threw it away.
