I originally bought these to help keep a closet door closed so the dogs couldn't get into their food. After they learned to leave the closet alone, the closers sat unused for quite a while. Then they found a new purpose. For "whatever reason," our upright freezer door kept getting left slightly open. Years ago, we lost an entire chest freezer full of food because it was left open for several days before anyone noticed. More recently, our upright freezer had been left cracked open several times overnight. Fortunately, I usually caught it the next morning before everything thawed completely, but it was still frustrating—and my birthday ice cream cake was the final casualty and the absolute last straw. I installed one of these on the freezer door using the included 3M adhesive pads instead of screws, and it has worked perfectly. The tension is just right. It's smooth enough that it doesn't make opening the door difficult, but it has enough pull to reliably close the door the last inch or so if someone doesn't shut it completely. I also appreciate that the kit includes both screws and strong adhesive mounting pads, so you can choose the installation method that works best for your application. Being able to avoid drilling holes into the freezer was a huge plus. It's completely silent and small enough to be unobtrusive, yet large enough to provide enough leverage for the freezer door to open fully while still pulling it closed reliably. I thought I had read that the tension was adjustable, but I'm not sure how to adjust it. Since the factory setting worked perfectly for my application, I didn't investigate it further. The units themselves seem well made, installation took only a few minutes, and they've solved a problem that has already cost us a significant amount of food. For us, they've easily been worth the price. And the perpetrator is no longer banned from using the freezer.

It has plenty of power for pulling my door closed to keep the cold in in my room when my cat wants to go in or out at night. Although you can't adjust how hard it reels in the cord, how hard it pulls the door closed is actually highly adjustable depending on where you place both the hook and the block/reel. That made it easy for me to adjust how much force it closes with so it's not too hard for my cat to open while still pulling the door closed after. Installation was easy, but the foam adhesive pad for the block came loose after a few days of use. There are screws and mounting holes though which obviously provide a much more secure mount if you dont mind a few small holes somewhere. The adhesive hook on the other hand has so far stayed securely mounted on the door. As far as noose levels (I see Amazon asking about that) it's pretty quiet. You can hear the cable moving when you're walking through the door, but it's not loud at all. As far as how loud everything is when the door closes, that's dependent on your door and latch. To keep it quiet when it closes, stop it from latching, and give my cat just a tiny crack to get her paw around and open the door, I put a foam strip around the end of the strikeplate. It keeps it very quiet even when the door closes from all the way open.

Update: After only 2 months the site pull is weaker. My pocket kitchen for now has to be opened all the way for it to close completely. I'm going to try lubricating the door track to see if that helps. In time, it may not fully closed at all. Works better than expected. I installed it on a sliding pocket door in my kitchen to cut down noise. Because the door is as old as the house, it's wood, so I didn't think this item would close the door completely. It is so strong that if opened all the way, it slams shut and rattles the wall so I put small rubber bumpers on the door edge. It won't slam shut if not opened all the way. The cable needs to be installed correctly, and the door needs to be opened almost completely to put tension on the cable to pull the door closed. This is exactly what I needed at a great price!

This item's installation was easy but the hooks you put on the door are the most unreliable junk. First one Ive installed, instantly snapped off. Been trying to look for the hook with no such luck due to its opacity. And because the hook is not replaceable or is very rare to find, it makes ordering a new one a complex task. The size is small and useful, but the security of it all is extremely questionable, especially with my versions attachable door hook instantly snapping off. I would recommend this with caution

Works great for barn doors, Kept have our dogs escaping through the back area and this made them auto close and that pur them to a stop , compact ans simple to install! At a decent price one makes a bit of a noise retracting but not bad, and easy to adjust to you needs .

We put these on our freezer and refrigerator doors. A couple of times the doors didn't close all the way and we lost some product. These work great!

I read the comment before buying and there were lot negative onces, however I decided to try and I have used it on my 3 outside doors, they are heavy metal entryway doors and this closer worked fine. I the only think might break may be the hook but I will just replace it with command strips. But for now it is functional and working.

Stronger than you think. We used it on our bedroom door and it'll slam it shut if you aren't careful. Our dog (Golden) is able to open the door though, which was the point, it just took her a while to learn.

The indoor cat had learned to open the sliding screen door. This has enough pull/spring to it that he hasn't figured out how to get out. On one door I had to adjust where I put the hook on the door (had to move it to middle of top door rail instead of right near the spring box, to prevent rubbing on door jamb) but then it worked great. On another door I had to put a spacer block (scrap wood) behind the spring box (again to avoid rubbing on door jamb), but it's easy to rig it to fit if you're reasonably handy. I also like that it's very easy to unhook when I don't want the automatic closer attached. Very happy!

Super awesome. I put in upright freezer. Door was light and popped open. This easily closes door and keeps it shut

Product very good. Just needed own curtain steel hooks instead of glued ones with product. Rest very good.
