The Absolute Best. Sunday Funnies Meet The Missing Manual.
With color-coded arrows, concise written directions and actual screenshots of ribbons, dialogue boxes and layout views, this book serves as an excellent tool for learning Word and as a rapid-entry bookshelf reference source. The Table of Contents is clear and the Index is complete. In the few weeks I have had this book I have found that each function is described in a direct how-to style that incorporates the appeal of color and non-textual graphical aids that make it simple to figure out what to do to accomplish a task in Word 2010. There may be shortcomings but I haven't found any. The bright colors throughout and weird funny graphics add to the joy of this book, making it a great pleasure to use instead of the irascible and dull chore some of this book's competitors have made of learning Word. Their approach makes Word into a beast of computerized inner secrets. But this book is entertaining while sticking to the point...no personal anecdotes nor digressions down memory lane or gripes about Microsoft. Nor does it stoop to gushing praise. I tried about a dozen other Word 2010 reference books and Tech Manuals, some paper, some electronic, but this gets the gold medal. This is the book to have no matter how versed you are in using Word, unless you have already memorized all of Word's features. Left out of this book are many esoteric Word features. But they aren't missing, they are just beyond the scope here. Subjects such as the vocabulary for Visual Basic which you would need to write new commands or extend Word's capabilities are not here. World-class computer-program designers, such as the heads of Information Technology departments for major corporations, will find this book beneath their needs. Unless their needs include rapidly bringing other employees up to speed in using this vital tool of the modern office. Church officers, school teachers, newsletter organizers, book writers, bloggers, magazine reporters, and everyone else who communicates in writing needs this book to get the most out of Word. For those of us who need to quickly figure out how to get their work done, this is a vital tool.I supplemented my learning of Word by using Internet searches, YouTube, the Microsoft Word Learning Web site and Word's own help system to become a competent user of this extraordinary word processor. "Teach Yourself VISUALLY Word 2010" lacks those long lists of Access keys and shortcut Key Combinations other books are so fond of. But you can find dozens of those lists for free through Google or print your own from Word's Help files. In sum, this book is well-organized and stuffed with good information. I believe I received a valuable resource for my money. I returned for full refund two other paper books on the subject I bought from Amazon, including one of those Dummies versions for Word 2010. I considered sticking to all Kindle versions because they are easy to store and keep near me as well as being easy to navigate, using electronic bookmarks and my own notes. But I kept this paper book after examining it closely for several hours and finding it so informative, easy to use and quick to reveal its secrets. Kindle versions of some books offered by Amazon made them easier to use than paper but this book works even faster and with more fun to answer questions than the e-versions of those others.

Teach Yourself Visually Word 2010
I recommend Teach Yourself Visually Word 2012.I chose it as the text book for an adult education course I taught this fall (2012). I believed that it would be a great resource for students during the class and an equally beneficial reference book after they had completed the class. Now that the classes are over, I feel that this was a good decision. I will use it for future Word 2010 classes that I teach. The book covered all the topics needed to gain a broad understanding of Microsoft Word. This is important to people who want to gain computer skills demanded by many employers. The only other thing needed to become a successful user of Microsoft Word is to practice the procedures clearly illustrated in the book.I have used a personal computer for about 30 years and Microsoft Word for around 20 years. Nevertheless, I still learned some new operations from Teach Yourself Visually Word 2010 while teaching the course and I rediscovered how to perform some tasks that I had not done in a long time.I highly recommend Teach Yourself Visually Word 2010 for anyone wanting to learn how to use Word 2010. I also recommend it for experienced users who want to have a handy and clear reference book for when they need to review procedures for operations that they don't use often.

Explained clearly; most helpful
Sometimes I find it difficult to name just what I am wanting to learn. This book has proven easy to find what i need. I am now much less anxious as I attempt to do editing and other things I am needing now, not later. Things I used to know on earlier programs can be found in this book. I don't have a lot of patience, especilly in the middle of a task, and so this handy and clear reference is a God-send. I can heartedly recommend it as beginning guife. My complaint is that it does not cover all of what I need. I imagine there is a book that will cover some of the more complex moves, and I need to locate that. The Word program can do so much more than I currently can use it for. I am eager to learn more. Meanwhile, do enjoy this well-done guide to a bit more than the basics.

Very helpful!
I bought a new computer and was using Word for the first time, so I had a lot to learn. This book was a lifesaver. The index could be better--I've had to search a lot for some of the info I need, but, ultimately, I always find it. The photos showing where I need to "click" on the task bar, etc. is great! Ditto for the detailed step-by-step narrative. After I ordered this book, a friend gave me two other Word How To's, and this one is the best by far. If it were easier to locate instructions for performing specific tasks, TEACH YOURSELF VISUALLY would be perfect. But I'm giving it five stars anyway, because it's pretty darn good the way it is.

I recommend this.
I bought this book to give myself a better understanding of all the things Microsoft word can do. I really do better learning visually and this book did a great job of that, if this is the way you learn best this would be a great teacher. It does cover a lot of ground and can take you from not knowing much at all about word to becoming very proficient.

Love these "Visually" how to books
Love these "Visually" how to books. Have been using them for years. Quick info, detailed "screen shots". Have them for Word, Access, Excel, Power Point, Windows 7, Windows Vista, AND Windows 10 is on order as I write. Actually quicker than surfing through the Office community pages, and other sources looking for answers from other users or surfing the entire Microsoft website looking for an answer to your question(s). GREAT tools! I highly recommend them all.

Teach Yourself Visually Word 2010
This is a product that I would definitely order again. This is great for the person who is Word challenged. It is easy reading and very understandable. It goes through the word process step by step. It is for the beginner and there are more complicated processes that are not covered. It is a good resource book and I would recommend it to my friends.

The ultimate book for "Word" users
An excellent book: I couldn't have managed without it. The switch from Word 2003 to 2010 was a huge culture shock. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, even for complex layouts. I would always get the "Teach Yourself Visually" books in future. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Better than other teach yourself books
Having used WordPerfect for 20 years I was not prepared to pay for yet another upgrade when changing my laptop. I decided since I already had MS Office 2010 I may as well change over and learn to use Word. I tried my usual books on this subject but they were only surface teaching. This book however took me to where I wanted to be and was surprised that Word 2010 is equal to WordPerfect.. Its an easy to use book and well laid out.
