Results are immediate and self-evident
So I got the softcover version a few days ago and read it through with a highlighter. This book... this is what I will be utilizing the rest of my life. First off, it's completely worth the price, in case that's causing someone to hesitate. Any typos or other gramatical issues are just so completely irrelevant. Remember, it's not Shakespeare; however, what it IS is an explicit and detailed description of the mechanisms and principles necessary to make stationary postures worthwhile. The reason I know is because the results can immediately be felt. I really know now exactly what to do and how to crank up my internal electricity, and it's now up to me whether or not I'll put in the required time and effort, or not. There really is nothing like this book anywhere, where it is all spelled out so directly and simply, and where you can instantly feel the results of implementing the information. I also really like how there is room for individual creativity and even some movement in this approach. With this, and a few of Mr. Gray's Tien Shan videos, I really have all I need. I guess I'm not allowed to say this is better than individual training and study, but I sincerely feel like I have an incredible body of material now that can keep me growing for decades, but again I'll only get results for what I put into it. The book fully delivers, and I'm very grateful to be one of the few people who will ever have it and appreciate it, seriously. For me this book is perfect.

As a beginner appreciate the clear writing and pictures.
There appears to be a reprint of Gray's book at a newer price which is good for those wanting a copy as the price is lower. I purchased this publishing, but as the number of pages, size and cover are the same it appears the newer printing is the same book with a different ISBN. The newer version doesn't say it's revised so I'm assuming the contents are the same, but wanted to note this as the uploaded photos are of this print.Author Steve Gray made the book presentable and clear with large type and color pictures. No doubt he wanted to make a beautiful, clear book conveying the essence of what he feels will benefit practitioners. I emphasize essence, this is not long nor does it go deep into theory, history or philosophy. A portion of the book is Steve's personal journey/stories so the actual Zhan Zhuang instruction is actually not the entire book as one might expect. There was no preview available when I purchased this took so I uploaded the contents, the back cover and a couple of sample pages, but now readers can see a sample. The ruler shown in some of the photos is an inch ruler. This book does seem to be a genuine and sincere effort to show Steve Gray's version and understanding of Zhan Zhuang. The book is easy to understand, no long-winded excursions. He shows some basic moves and to me if you are a beginner basic is better. Don't feel you have to learn 100 different moves, more complicated moves and several systems to get benefits. There is some good info, but some comments left wishing he had gone a bit deeper explaining. A plus is he also shows some of the movements sitting so if you have balance or other physical issues this may be helpful. He also encourages readers to experiment a bit with the moves. I will also say if practicing for health reasons as part of your "warm up" or beginning stance to remember a place or event that makes you happy and bring a smile to your heart. It's helpful to be positive when you practice. If you like straightforward and more of a do-er you will probably appreciate this book, but if you like to geek out on the theories, history, etc. you probably won't vibe with Gray's style.I am a type 2 diabetic and my energy was so low and erratic. I didn't want to get up and do anything. A friend who is a Kung Fu sifu sent me a few Yi Quan/Zhan Zhuang postures. I did them and began to feel better. I can't say I'm out of the woods, but I'm better which is a plus. Of course, this book is written from Gray's perspective and I can tell readers that different "learned" people will say different things. For example, Gray's teacher did not encourage visualization, while others may place much more importance on it. There are many perspectives even within the same systems and schools and I have read while some people say they got a lot of one system, others say that same system did nothing for them. All one can do is try it see if it works for you. You can find Steve Gray on YouTube where you can get a sense of his personality and style of Zhan Zhuang and if he's a good match for you. He also sells videos of his method. I purchased the book to round out my knowledge of Gray's system as the videos mainly demonstrate the routine/movements.I want to mention it appears Amazon put a white paper strip around the book to keep it nice. Unfortunately, it did not appear to be tight enough around the book and not glued well so it came off in shipping. Amazon just put the book in a paper package with some small items from my order so it got a few dings, but luckily nothing too horrible. Just mentioning this if you are picky about the condition of your book when it is received. Hope the pictures of the book help other customers decide if the book is what they are looking for.

A Hidden Gem - Use It!
Why is this book a hidden gem? Because the treasure is not obvious, it will ony become apparent over time through practice. I have many books on chi kung, some on nei gong and a few other gems regarding other subltle energy pactices and while some of them will "Blow your mind" with the scope of their grandiosity and endless shiny facets most people who own these books can not use them so they just sit on a shelf. This book is different. It is simple, no fluff. The author does not love hearing his own voice and he's pretty down to earth. for a star jumper (IMO) If you want radiant shen, this book can get you there. Shen can take your mind to the stars, literally. I speak from experience, I am not parrotting the words of another. The reason that I call this book a hidden gem is because it goes straight to the point, like an arrow. You are not going to be constructing crystalline merkabas and rotating them. There is nothing wrong with that when its time if its done right but it can't be forced - nothing should be forced. Imaging trying to "force" a plant to grow instead of watering it, feeding it, nourishing it with sunlight and love. What you need to build and direct the energy is there. Be that one person in however many that can just flip on the old school switch, settle into training and just do it without making up excuses for failure or spinning fantasies from your own subconscious mind. Just be the plant and the book will show you how to feed yourself.Thank you for this wonderful book, your work is not in vain.

It’s a paper back book mostly with color photographs of the author showing some very basic Taoist stances. He claims he and “Bruce Lee” are Kung fu brothers because he says he studied with Lee’s uncle.I would send it back if I couldA wasted 40 bucks!

A very powerful system
I usually don’t write reviews very much but this book deserves one. The bottom line, buy this book. It is worth the price. It has many powerful chi/Prana building methods that can be felt early on just be consistent with it. I’ve also bought lvl 1 and 2 of the tien shan neigong and that is really good stuff too.

Straight forward overview of Zhan Zhuang
Overall I enjoyed the book. It contains pretty basic information, but sometimes this information is the most valuable and often overlooked. The stories about Bruce Lee’s silent teacher were interesting.

Plenty of meat and no fat
There are plenty of detailed books out there on Zhan Zhuang. Many are extremely detailed.Take it from someone who knows and owns a few. This book is one of those portable essential go to primers in comparison. This book is contrarian. Less is more. All meat and no fat. It's an essential for the core collection.Buy this book if you are a doer. It's all you need. For the beginner, it's a great start. For the veteran, it's validation. You can nary do better. It's definitely worth the price of admission. An added bonus is the background story on the Daoist wizard. There is plenty of wisdom and experience between those pages.A must get! Highly recommended!

Lots of energy, super health and spiritual Growth!
Firstly Neikung/ chikung isn’t for talkers it’s for dedicated people. It requires work and dedication and often most day very regular practice. If you aren’t they type of person who is going apply yourself this book will not be for you. Lots of work and effort, sorry.Zhan Zhuang needs often daily practice and is a method of developing the bodies internal energy ( chi) as the Chinese call it.Overtime this energy gets pretty powerful and one will begin to see the fruits of the labour. There are many books on Zhan Zhuang what separates this book from the others is it contains hidden and very powerful spiritual meditations. What do these meditations do? Well first you need to develop the energy in the body well which takes lot of time then you can move onto the higher level meditations in this and you will find out. Those who are dedicated will experience some pretty amazing benefits and the development of some gifts and abilities. But really this is a system for amazing health, energy and spiritual growth.Tien Shan Neikung is the real deal and those with dedication will reap the benefits.
