Gerber Crucial Black - Great tool
Read many reviews. Some real angry or just bad opinion. Just recieved mine and its great. hefty for a mid size multi tool. Sharp, sharp blade. few drops of blood. The whole tool is tight and works well. Not a full heavy duty tool. But a wonderful EDC and can handle many projects, didn't want a big and heavy tool with me all the time just one that can handle day to day and camping. No regrets. Quality is very good. Pliers are just that, pliers. They work. Screwdrivers are adequate. Philips is a little small but where that can't do it, the flat head will. The strap cutter is all that and more. Read thru the lines in reviews. The Crucial is what is is and not more. It has the essential tools for daily carry. It wont build a boat but its not for that. Very happy with purchase. Good functional tool
I bought the black Crucial as a direct replacement for the gray version which was recently lost/ stolen. I had the gray version since 2010 which was purchased from Amazon. I never had any problems with the gray one. It always did nearly every small task I needed it to do, and if I needed it to do more I would get a different tool. It does exactly what it's intended for and is named perfectly as it has only the "crucial" tools. It's lightweight, comfortable to carry and reasonably well built, unlike some other Gerber products that I've encountered. I carry it almost every day and find it perfect for those simple, on the fly tasks such as cutting cords or boxes, adjusting a screw or grabbing something with the pliers. The only difference I've found between the black and gray version is that the black has a strap cutter in place of the carabiner/ bottle opener which I never used for either task anyway. I could see the strap cutter actually coming in handy someday as an emergency seat belt cutter. The only criticism I have of either version is the knife blade and the screw drivers. I would prefer a knife with a pointed tip rather than the rounded edge. It still slices and cuts fine but a pointed tip would make for a slightly more functional blade, as well as serving as an emergency self defense weapon. The screw driver blades could be a little bit longer as well. I suppose if they made these three changes, the whole frame might have to be a little bit longer but that's ok. An extra 1/4" or even 1/2" wouldn't bother me. All in all, I'd recommend this tool to anyone looking for a light duty piece to escape the burden of carrying an overloaded heavy duty multi-tool.

Good, but needs a bottle opener.
I was looking for a quality multi-tool with a pocket clip for everyday carry. This is a solid little unit, albeit simple. The blade came pretty sharp, and I love that it has a strap cutter, as I work in emergency services. The blade and tools have liner locks and the pliers are not spring loaded. The finish does not appear to be that resilient, and is showing wear after about two weeks of daily use. The one thing this tool is missing is a bottle opener. Granted, I should have realized that prior to my purchase, but I kinda of thought it was standard on all tools. I had this in my pocket while at a social gathering and somebody asked for a bottle opener. I got a little excited to come to the rescue and pulled out my new tool, but soon became very disappointed. I opened and closed every tool probably 10 times looking for the bottle opener! I will probably relagate this tool to carrying while at work, and search for a different tool that would be better in certain social situation.

Love it
All the tools you need. None of the tools you never use. Fits in your pocket like a pocket knife. Blade is nice and sturdy. Wish the belt clip held on tighter. Not sure how i feel about the blunted knife tip, but I’m not stabbing things so it does its job. The phillips bit is flat. I’m guessing this is to keep the unit slim. I wish it were a regular phillips bit, but i like how slim and compact this tool is, so I’ll deal with it.

another great piece of Gerber gear!
I'm a Gerber gear junkie; I have a Mossy Oak multi tool, had a Leatherman, and tried various no-brand multi tools over the years. They all had something to offer and served me well, but my go-to multi tool is Gerber. I probably didn't need this one, but I really liked the ergonomic design and strap-cutter feature in this. In my line of work, carrying a multi tool is essential and they've saved the day more than once. The Gerber Crucial lives up to its namesake in that you have 4 essential tools in a convenient carry package: knife with serrated edge, cross head and flat head driver, and strap cutter. You never know when you're going to have to slice away a strap, seat belt, or other piece of material and having this is another piece of Gerber security. I also love the pocket clip; I carry this tool on left pants pocket and Gerber parablade on my right. Also on my keychain is the Gerber Dime which also has its own unique features, so on any given duty day, I have 4 Gerber pieces on me and I have peace of mind knowing I'll always have the right tools on me when needed. Thanks again, Gerber Gear!

Great addition to your EDC
Its compact design is perfect for everyday carry, fitting seamlessly into my pocket. The build quality is exceptional, with durable materials ensuring longevity and reliability. The tool selection, including pliers, a knife, and multiple screwdrivers, covers a wide range of tasks. The one-handed deployment is a game-changer, providing quick and easy access to the tools I need.

Looks awesome
I love the look of this tool. Unfortunately that's about it. The design of this tool is a mess. The screwdriver blades are too short and could each easily have been made an inch longer. The liner locks are very thin and the detent ball is just a divot in the metal. I like the strap cutter except that the pivot feels like it has sandpaper in it. And now for the knife blade. I am not a fan of part serrated blades, but this one is the worst I have ever seen. The pivot is stiff, the thumb stud is uncomfortable, and the serrations make it unusable for everyday tasks. Try cutting cardboard with this thing, I dare you. Also, the angle of the non-serrated portion of the blade makes no sense. It angles back at too steep. Honestly to make this blade more effective they should have angles the non-serrated portion forward a little bit. This would have negated the fact that the base of the blade is useless in most cutting tasks. The pliers are what they are, lite duity needle nose, standard pliers, wire cutters. A jack of all trades, but master of none. All said, if you want a cool looking compact multi-tool and you like this one, then you are probably willing to overlook it's flaws. If you want a hard use "rescue tool", don't waste your time on this. It does look awesome though.
