Yoga Class Timer
I bought this for my wife to use when she teaches yoga classes which are 60 minutes. She wanted something silent that was easy to see/read by just her. It works great for her purposes of keeping the timing and progression of the class. She likes it.The only complaint she had was that she can't lay it flat on its back, because if she does the screen goes to sleep. I'm not sure if this is part of the design or not. She said the timer must be standing up vertically or with the back leg propping it up on and slight angle to prevent this. This may not affect most people using it though. Overall, the product was a great solution for her. We haven't noticed any battery issues that were reported in other reviews.

READ BEFORE BUYING! Recommended with reservations.
THERE IS NO ON/OFF SWITCHPicked this thing up for studying because the price was right. Boy I wish I had read the reviews first. Other people talked about the lack of an off switch but I missed it completely. Now, it does go to "sleep" after a bit, but all this does is dim the screen, it still eats batteries. That means if you don't want to replace the batteries every couple of days, you need to manually pull the batteries out every time you're done using it. You could find a little bit of a balance if you had some rechargeable AAA batteries or maybe a little USB-rechargeable power pack to fit in the battery compartment, but this to me is still only half a solution.Everything else about this little thing is pretty great though. The display is bright and easy to read, it's easy to set the time, and the volume options are good enough. But that darn switch. Well, I opened up the case and there's plenty of room for them to have included a switch. It's not overengineered and impossible to work on, so I popped on down to my local parts store, picked up a standard SPST toggle switch for a couple bucks, busted out my Dremel and did a little warranty-voiding modification work et voila! Mine now has an on-off switch. So word to the wary. If you're handy you could pick this thing up for dirt cheap and improve it very easily, but if you want something that works flawlessly right out of the box you may want to consider spending a bit more money for something that wasn't so thoughtlessly designed.

Great visual timer…until it’s not
I needed a visual timer to use with my students in my occupational therapy sessions as many of them needed something they can see and hear to know when we need to stop a task and move on. I like that I have the option to do a count up or count down, but I always use the countdowns.I did have a problem with mine where the screen would not light up after it was dark for a while, but the timer component still worked (as it would go off). I tried different batteries and still had issues. I missed my time to return it, but through Amazon and the company I was able to get a replacement one quickly. The company was very responsive and I appreciated their communication to get a replacement to me quickly. I have used the replacement one for over a month with no issues.EDIT: I changed my review to 3 as the replacement now will not have the screen show up anymore. I’m giving up on this product and buying something else.

Simple to use, highly visible & very handy
I've been using a visual timer for a couple years now as part of the Pomodoro Method for productivity with ADHD. The analog timer I was using previously was fine, but it did have a very limited set of uses. This digital timer is one I can use elsewhere in the house for other purposes.A few things I really like about this timer:1. It has a clear red-on-black display that you can see from pretty far away. I can see it in the kitchen from the other side of my living room, which is about 20 feet. I can't read the digits from there, but I can easily look back and see how much red is left.2. It also has a count-up timer (or stopwatch, basically).3. I can scroll backward slightly from 00:00 to quickly set a 60:00 timer, which is super convenient.4. You can pause the timer at any point, which I couldn't do with my analog timer. This is really helpful when I'm timing my work and just need to run to the bathroom quick.5. The alarm is clear and loud, but not annoying. The beep can be set to a low or high volume, or it can be silenced completely, which I've never seen on a timer before.6. It has an adjustable stand and a magnet built in. You can set it on your desk while working or stick it on the fridge while you're cooking. I've used it for both so far and had no problems. In fact, when it's not in use, the fridge is where I keep the timer so it's always easy to find.Note: I did drop it a couple of times trying to stick it to something that wasn't magnetic (I don't know why I thought it was), and it still works great after taking a couple feet of impact. LOL.Anyway, this is a pretty simple, straightforward little tool. It's more than just a basic egg timer, but it's also not a fancy, expensive smart gadget. It does what it claims to do at a decent price point. Definitely recommended for anyone who wants to visualize their time for whatever reason.

Battery drainer, otherwise great
Very easy to use as many have already covered. I took off one star because of poor energy management of the device. When the device goes to "sleep", the LED backlight turns off, but the LCD is still active. There is unfortunately not a switch that turns the entire device off. With fresh batteries, the screen is indeed very bright and very visible. After three days, however, the screen brightness has reduced considerably as the battery is slowly drained. As others have mentioned, the viewing angle of the LCD is also not great, so when brightness is reduced, it is almost unreadable at most angles, especially when your environment is also brightly lit. I have included three photos for reference:1. Fresh batteries2. Batteries 3 days old3. Batteries 3 days old at a poor viewing angleI would have preferred a small switch or power button to be able to totally turn the unit off when not in use and prolong the useful life of the battery. I may end up modifying the device by inserting a small switch in the battery circuit.

Edit - battery dies after a few days, can no longer recommend
NOTE: this is an addition to my original review, having used the timer for longer. Basically, it chews batteries and they last a few days at most, even with the timer being used just a few times. I use rechargeable batteries, so at least I'm not buying new ones, but it's a waste of battery to recharge them only to have them empty in a few days. I would no longer recommend this product, I'm afraid. This is a great little timer for personal and family use. It's dead easy to use, and though it comes with instructions, there is really no need for them, as the screen and buttons on the timer are very intuitive to use. The red on black visuals as it counts down are super-clear, especially good for kids who are gaming, who can't make excuses that they didn't know their time was coming to an end!.Being able to set it to 'no alarm' and just use the visuals, is also great for some general reminders where the beep is not necessary. I use this timer to time music practice sessions and when the kids are gaming, to set clear time-limits.It is definitely better than the previous version, especially because it has a 'low battery' warning, which the old version did not have, so sometimes the batteries in the old version had died and I didn't realise it until I thought that timer was working, but hadn't counted down! This one clearly tells me that the batteries are low. Small thing but definitely an improvement in general operation. The only negative I found was that the magnet is weaker than I would have liked so it doesn't securely stick to the fridge. It's more of a convenience thing as it is super-stable when placed on a flat surface. there's also a fold-up stand in the back so it's easy to securely put on a shelf or table-top. All that said, I contacted the manufacturer about the weak magnet and they responded promptly, thanking me for the feedback and saying that this would be addressed in the next batch.

The batteries lasted 24 hours. Do not buy.
I wanted a digital timer for the kitchen and having read some of the reviews I was concerned that the batteries might run out quickly. However I thought that perhaps the other buyers had been unlucky and only a few of the units were faulty. When the timer arrived I put in two expensive Duracell batteries, but after using the alarm only twice the batteries ran out of power and this was within 24 hours! I would need to buy 700 batteries a year to run this timer which is hardly practical.I don’t like writing negative reviews but this timer should not be available for sale if so many of the units don’t work. I’m kicking myself as I have had to spend my time repackaging the timer and going to the post office to return it.

No 'off' button - batteries run down in days
Everything else is great - but there is no off button so the batteries run out in a matter of days. I would buy this again of it had an off button. I thought about taking the batteries in and out, but this is not a practical solution.

Pointless after a day
The timer doesn't switch off properly, and the batteries are drained after a day. You have to replace them after only 24-48 hours, which is really expensive and wasteful. Shame.

Doesn't last long. Pain to return.
Only worked for a few days then display stopped working, but sound continued. Tried to return it but had to front the shipping cost to Slovakia!!!
