Good working lock, easy to set up.
Kingsley Combination Padlock - Set Your Own Combination Things have been picking up legs and walking off on my property lately. Someone broke into a locked shed of mine and easily manipulated it open. I had lots of valuable tools and equipment stolen just after my late husband passed away. So, I have been trying to be proactive to protect what I have left. I actually purchased more than one padlock in addition to this one. I placed them on various places on the property. One of the locks to lock my riding lawnmower to a post. I put one lock on my pool gate, and one on one of my two shops or sheds that I have on the outside of the door in addition to the regular door locks. I reserved this heavy lock for the main storage building that does have some valuables still in it. I may not stop a theft, but I'm going to try my best. Hopefully the new locks will at least deter would be thieves. The lock is heavy and well made and since the shackle is heavy, I feel better just knowing it is there. This is how I set up my new lock. The original number is 0-0-0, to set your own combination.1. Push in shackle and then pull up the shackle. You can only set the lock if it is open. 2. Insert the tool (small key ) in the side of the lock and Rotate the key/tool 90 degrees in either direction, the key/tool will stay in place. I could tell when I had it in the right spot, because when I pushed the tool/key it would stay in. If the tool is not all the way in, it wont set. 3. Push the shackle of the lock inside the lock chamber, and then. Set your own combination by turning dials to the convex line. 4. Turn the key/tool and then lock the lock to set the combination. shackle. Then the setting is completed. I did this and it worked the very first time. The picture is of me setting up the lock with the key in the side and then I set the combination, locked and unlocked the lock without issue. After reading these instructions, the directions indicated to remember your code and write it down in a safe place. I set a code easy for me to remember but hard for others to guess. I had no difficulty setting the lock or with it's functioning. The spindle was easy for me to manipulate, moving smoothly and locking securely. I like the size and feel of the lock and it is heavy and well made. I also like the brass dials, and that you have to have a key to change the code. I noticed in some of the other reviews that some of the customers had issues with the lock after several weeks of usage. So far, I've had my lock and been using it for about two weeks with no issues. Thus my five star rating. I will continue to use the lock and update my review if I have any issues with it in the future. So far it works great.

One wouldn't open.
I bought two of these back in November to replace brass Master locks of similar design, which I had lost. I based my purchase on customer reviews. Bad move. Kingsley sent me an e-mail asking my opinion, which I couldn't provide at the time, as they were for future use. Well, it's now the future, and I'm in Breckenridge, CO. I used the locks to secure a cargo bag on the rear carrier of my RV using cables. One opened with no problem, but the other seem to be frozen inside. It was difficult to get the numbers to move individually. I finally used a heat gun to warm the lock, but to no avail. Finally a maintenance man at the resort cut the shackle using a small bolt cutter. He took it to the trash for me. I don't know what I'm going to do with the other. Probably trash it, too. I never had a problem traveling in any weather with the brass Master Locks. I will be ordering 2 after I finish this review. They seemed better made anyway.

Great lock. Need a key to change the combination, so not anyone can change it without you knowing about it.
Great lock. You have to depress it in order to open it which just gives you an extra feature of security. Price point is spot on for a lock that you can change the combination code, but you need a key to do so. That means no one can change the combination code without the key. All other locks I have seen, anyone with a similar lock who knows your combination code can change the combination code on their own, but not with this lock. It is easy to open the lock with the combination code entered. It is a heavy duty lock, not light weight. It does have a thick handle so it doesn't fit just any latch, but it can fit any chain. High quality. Works every time thus far. It is easy to set your own combination code. I did it on the first try.

Great unless you want to unlock it... which admittedly is pretty important.
Received my lock yesterday and sent it back this morning. The lock itself doesn't always open, even with the correct code. It seems like the mechanism is not well designed; when pushing the lock down to try to open it sometimes the code would change itself too. After trying to change the code, it took about 20 or so attempts to get it open again with the new code (thought it was broken at first and was about to give up).Given that many reviewers here had the same problem, or their lock started to exhibit the same problem over time... this seems like a problem waiting to happen. I wouldn't buy this lock unless you have a good plan for how to open it if it stops unlocking. My lock did not come with instructions either, so I had to dig through here to figure out how to change the code, which was kind of annoying.

Epic Fail
Failed and after a months worth of use. Unlocked it after multiple uses in one day on the fence to the backyard and all the sudden it refused to open as if the lock had scrambled the code on me and I had to cut it off. I contacted seller and the next day after receiving contact to submit for return I was past the 30 day window by hours. Needless to say I loved the product but with no response from the manufacture to help now that the amazon prime help window has closed I'm stuck with a useless cut off lock and no desire to invest in their product again out of fear of the same results and more money down the drain. It would be a 5 star perfect lock if I hadn't had an epic fail.

Great lock that failed to operate when used in a rough situation
I've ordered two of these locks, plus five others that are similar with the Master Lock name on them. One of my Kingsley locks no longer opens and closes. It didn't fail immediately, but got harder and harder to open and close. It is the lock I used to lock the back of my cargo trailer, which broke during my first trip with the trailer on the road. I had used a key lock on the trailer for years without any failures. I bought the lock on June 27, 2017 and it failed on October 15, 2017, but was only used on the road once. Why the three star rating? It's really a nice lock, probably a five star product if not subject to the abuse it gets when used to lock a cargo trailer. But it gets one star for ruggedness.
