Can it be left unlocked for a period of time or is it always locked?

Hello, There is a feature within the app called passage mode. This feature will disable the auto-lock during a schedule and allow the lock to stay unlocked. Thank you for your question.

Does this operate at all if the wifi is down? i understand the app won't work in this situation but what about preprogrammed codes and fingerprints?

Hello, In this case, the lock can still be controlled by the app while in bluetooth range. All the pre-programmed codes and settings will still work. Thank you for your question.

Can you have the handle facing horizontally towards the left side?

Hello, The handle is reversible for both left and right handed doors. Thank you for your question.

What functionality do you lose when it gets too cold? In Minnesota it can get down to -20 which is well below the functional range.

Hello, All electronic may be lost in those temperatures as with most electronics. It is recommended that you carry the physical key in those instances. Thank you for your question.
