Only option for a small cat?
I've looked at various cat trackers, this appears to be the only one that is suitable for a small cat. Our adult cat weighs less than the 3kg lower limit for most other trackers. If I had a large cat I would probably have bought a GPS based tracker instead. The tracker itself is very small and light, and doesn't bother our cat. It does work, but the range in a typical suburban area is quite limited. I was able to locate the cat in a nearby garden, but only from about 15m away. There's no ongoing subscription to pay and I haven't had to change any of the batteries in the 2 months that I've had it.

Works well but with 'cut out' problem
We ordered this for our female cat who goes wondering for up to 36 hours. It was fairly easy to set up although getting the tab into the plastic holder which attaches it to the cat's collar can be quite a challenge. Lucily our cat makes no objection to it being around her neck. The direction finding is really good once the can is in range to be picked up. What i found really irritating was that it stops after only about 40 seconds and has to be re set. The Range of the Tabcat is quite variable but it does pick up the tab on the cat's collar when she is in the average size gardens of some of our neighbours. However for one particular house which has a very large garden it does not pick her up. Overall though it does what it says and is well made.

Not a strong enough signal to work properly
We bought this as one of our cats had lost a leg and wanted a bit of confidence that we could find him if he got into trouble. We fitted one each to both cats and they fitted on the collar fine. However one of the cats lost its collar on day 2 in the brambles of next door and although that wasn't the tags fault we have not been able to get a signal to be able to trace it and although the one legged cat still has his, you can only pick up a signal if he's 10 feet away, beyond that it's pretty useless. Alot of money for something that doesn't do what it says it can.

It works!
Great product, it actually works, our partially blind cat struggles to find her way home, went missing in the dark and rain, she was out of range, so got in the car and drove around, it picked her up on a new housing estate in a back garden, had to knock on the door, but they were very good and we found her sheltering under a bush, very wet and feeling sorry for herself. It will also pick up signal through a house wall, thought she had got out, but took me back inside to where she was hiding behind my bed, so good if they get shut in a garage or shed. The collar lights up in the dark and it does beep, but not very loudly. Only one thing for improvement would be supplying spare batteries. Make sure you have back up ones, good quality, as the cheap ones won't last and a long search will drain the one in the remote. The small collar battery as well, but that lasts a lot longer, I keep changing mine though just in case, as obviously nothing will work otherwise, or you can just keep testing it now and then. She has managed to get her collar off couple of times, but you can find that with the tracker, mine was stuck in the hedge. The tabcat is small, lightweight and doesn't bother her at all, definately waterproof with the cover supplied and all in all can't fault it. 100% better than the gps tracker I tried, that kept losing signal, then when you got to the pinpoint, she wasn't there, actually was three gardens away. The range is good, but if out of range, it will still keep searching for a signal, so don't give up, just keep walking or driving around....

Better than nothing at all
I've just purchased my 4th of these products (previously 2 Locator and now 2 V2). I live in the countryside where GPS is limited so need to use RF. Positives: good battery life, very accurate (once you've managed to pick up a signal), lightweight. However the quality of the handset is appalling, falls apart quickly and you end up searching for your cat whilst pushing the battery in and hoping you don't lose connection. Last handset fell to bits so ordered a new full kit, now can't link the previous tags to the new handset as I can't unregister then from the previous one. You also have to be pretty close to the tag to be able to pick up a signal and it's not clear where it's coming from at first. All in all this is the best product from lots of bad ones and is slightly better than nothing at all. They could design the handset better but I assume the build quality is so poor as they realise this and want you to buy multiple ones.

Tabcat
It's good to know where the cats are now, took a little while to get used to tracking them since I'd be in the kitchen it would say they where near Infront of me but pointed it at the ceiling to the bedroom they were there, now I'm used to it it's really easy to use, I like how there is a volume for the remote pound beeping, less beeping to silent. One of my cats is a black cat and he didn't like having a bell on his collar he would freak out now after a while he gets used to the beeping and can have the bell on his collar, when I'm looking for them they know what the beeping on there collars are, even if they don't want to come in they show themselves to me.

Range is very limited unless you are in a large open area. No good for urban cats
The product does work but the range is so limited it is practically useless. Any solid object will prevent detection be that bushes, walls, fences etc. My cat managed to lose it's collar along with the tabcat device. No problem I thought I'll just locate it with the control unit. I have wandered all over the neigbourhood and have yet to pick up a signal. Can't really recommend this product for urban use.

Forget GPS, this is the one you want.
long and short is: Long battery life, easy to use, no subscription. If you like the sound of that then grab this product. Our kitten went missing when she was just getting used to the outside world. After 3 long agonising days, she returned to us. We went straight online looking for a solution to make sure we could find her if she went missing again. In my research, 2 options came up: GPS tags with a cellular connection or, RF tags. With all gps tags there is a fee to connect the tag to the internet via a cellular connection. This is usually a monthly subscription. With this connection also comes increased battery life, which means you need to remember to charge the tag to be effective. Finally, you will need a way to receive this data from the tag, usually in the form of a companion app. The other option is radio tags,no subscription, long battery life, and no need for a silly smart app. This is what this product has. You do have a range limit, but if you have a situation where your cat is lost, walking around the area with it will be sure to pick them up, then it's just a case of homing in on your pet and bringing them home. We've had one scare since picking this product up and it was just a case of grabbing the remote and walking around the block and following the signal when it was picked up. Within 30 mins and a little way from home she was found fussing with some children, perfectly happy.

Small but functional
Works well for our very tiny cat. Unfortunately you cannot disable the beep from the chip itself, but I have cut the wires inside which solved that issue. This way our cat is not disturbed by any sound. It works for about 100 meters in an open field, but only 20 or so meters in areas with a lot of walls or houses.

It works
I don't regret buying it, it's good for tracking my cat. But there are some really annoying details that means I have to give it only 3/5 stars: When I press the button to search for my cat, it only searches for a while and then stops, which is in itself quite annoying because my cat travels far and I track her from my car. I wish there was a way to make it continuously search until I turn it off. Also, when it does stop searching, if I immediately press the key to begin searching again it usually does not register it, so I press again, then it quickly starts to search but stops again (so on second key press it appears to register both) Also, I feel that they could have done a lot more with the technology. If it uses the same frequency as wifi then why can't we also use an app to use the phones internal radio to search for the tracker? Why aren't there more powerful trackers available? Even with this tracker, searching for my cat is like searching for a needle in a haystack. It's a lot better than no tracker, but I still feel quite powerless when the cat does wander off. I have to rely on her returning to places I know she roams. It would be nice if there were some open source APIs or something so that the community could easily integrate with the product. All that said, I was aware of the limitations of the technology, and it's very nice that the tracking tab is so small, and has long battery life.
