Well organized and beautiful inside and out
I am giving this 5 stars because I am simply amazed at how well this book is put together with lots of information and wonderful pictures. This book does cover a lot of herbs and plants that aren't common in the states, but I like that. I have other books for stuff that is fairly common to my area. The information is nicely organized and easy to locate based on plant or symptoms. Under each plant it tells you how to make the oils, infusions, tinctures, etc. Gives you a recommendation of how to use, how much to take, when to take it, and some cautions that you need to be aware of when they apply. Also gives you information on how long some stuff can be stored, which can benefit first aid kits, or someone ordering herbs and storing them for future use. This book was published in 1996. I didn't realize that until after I made the purchase, but I am still very pleased with it :) The book is rather large, but the size, layout, and colours, make it very easy for my eyes to read, and few books are easy on my eyes.Makes a nice addition to the home library.

An apprectiated addition to an herbal practitioner's library.
Laid out in alphabetical order, the herbs are easy to reference. The illustrations include exceptional photos as well as very concise color graphic prints.Provided for each are their description, habitat & cultivation, parts used, constituents, history and folklore, their medicinal actions, uses, and cautions. A large portion of the book introduces Herbal Remedies & Home Uses. In this section are briefs on how to make infusions, decoctions, tinctures, capsules and powders, tonics and wines, syrups, infused oils, ointments, poultices, creams, compresses and lotions, and various other miscellaneous preparations.Included also is an alphabetical index by Ailment and the key herbs used in their treatments.#alwaybuyused

Practically the easiest book of recipes I have .
This is a great book for the beginner !I learned to use it very easily .The directions are very instructional and will have you making salves and teas ,etc, very quickly .It's just a very good guide to finding natural recipes in your own kitchen .A very good book if you don't like using the "stuff" that you buy in stores. And it is much cheaper to make your own .I have a lot of the plants now growing in my new "garden" and am enjoying a lot of the recipes. The whole family has benefited from it and so will yours !

I have a lot of books on plants and herbal medicine, and I keep going back to this one because it really truly is complete. The more I come back to it, the more surprised I am by how many sections it has on everything you need to know. It really is a top-notch book in the field of herbal medicine

Very often there are news reports about the dangers in use of prescribed drugs.Natural medicinal plants have been used for hundreds of years around the world. This encyclopedia is written by Andrew Chevalier, a well know and recognized expert on the use and misuse of plants used to treat a variety of common illnesses. There are over 500 species of plants and herbs included with illustrations and where they may be found. Anyone wanting to learn more about natural medicine will find this very useful.
