German Prepaid SIM Card

Worked reasonably well in the Big cities of eastern and northern Germany, but coverage not uniform while traveling country side between cities. In smaller towns internet E and G coverage frequently not avaiable. All and all adequate and would recommend to others. Aditional telephone time was easily purchased through E-Plus service provider telephone store. E-Plus is the network that supports this card. T-mobile and other German networks will recognize the sim card but not always register it or support it with service.

This sim card did not work, the pin did not match the phone # so I could not activate it online, I called ortel and they told me they activated it and it would work. In Germay upon arrival I put in the sim card and it would not work. After more phone calls they said buy a new Phone. I went to an e-plus store in Germany and they sold me a blauworld flat rate 500 min. card for 9.90 euro's and that would not work in the Blu T200 Deejay The e-plus store sent me around the corner to a phone store and sold me a samsung GT-E1081T phone for 25 euro's and tested it with the blauworld sim card and it worked fine. the thing that upsets me is that Amazon said delivery for the Blu T200 phone & the Ortel sim card would take 6-8 wks. and it came in aprox. a week. I ordered it on 3-4-12 and only left for Germany on 5-14-12, came back 6-4-12 and can't return the stuff that doesn't work because there is a 30 day return policy. Do yourself a favor and buy your sim card & phone in Germany save money and have a working phone.I lost $86.89, and had a lot of aggrevation.

It was one of the best sim cards for roaming inside Europe. Excellent 9 cent/minute rate and good data plans but now all is over. In fact, beginning from September, they decided the minimum top up must be 15 euros every six months. I will ditch mine as soon as the credit dries up, then will move to the better Tellink Roaming Sim, still the best option out there for European roaming plus other 40 countries.

Directions say a few time to enter at 16 digit code? I do not see a 16 digit number anywhere on the card of sim card...or directions. Can someone tell me where to find it. I am leaving for Europe on the 25th of April.Thanks! I technically can not rate the product because I have not used it yet.

As a US citizen traveling to several European countries this spring, I needed to be able to call home easily and cheaply. I checked out the Cellular Abroad [C.A.] website, but figured out that I could put together a similar package (cell phone plus SIM cards for various countries) more cheaply on my own. The Ortel is the German SIM card offered by C.A., and it is available at Amazon for a slightly lower price. The description of the card (found both on Amazon and C.A.) specifies the type of phone you need (unlocked GSM tri- or quad-band). In fact, the Ortel card that I ordered from Amazon probably was sent from C.A., since it came with their instruction sheet (in English).In short: carefully follow the instructions with the card (also given in the Amazon description), and you'll be fine. Upon disembarking in Germany, I put the card into my (previously charged) phone, activated it, and it not only worked, but within minutes there was a message from a friend back in the US. You can buy a SIM card more cheaply in Germany, but two advantages of getting it before you leave are: (1) You'll have it right away when you land; (2) You'll know your cell phone number in advance and can give it out to others. It takes a little time to figure out and set up the voice mail system, but find some time to do this early on, because you'll want it when you need it.Like another reviewer, I found excellent coverage in cities in eastern Germany (Berlin, Dresden, Leipzig, etc.). The few times I noticed the "bars" dropping off were when trains I was traveling on were out in the countryside.I re-charged the card with more minutes three different times during my trip. It was no problem finding stores that sold vouchers - just look for the "e-plus" sign (NOT "Ortel") in the window. On the main shopping street of Berlin alone there were at least 3 or 4 stores that sold them. These weren't "mom and pop" stores in out of the way neighborhoods. They were like Verizon or AT&T stores on a downtown street or at the mall in the US. I bought my first voucher in Berlin, and the store clerk was helpful (and spoke English -- although I can get by in German). Again, read the instructions carefully when you activate the voucher. The first time I did it, it didn't work, because I had mistakenly left out a "#" following one of the numbers. After that, no problems.Also, do not try to use the card in the US, or anywhere else other than Germany. Only activate it when you arrive there. If you buy an international cell phone (as I did) and want to check out the phone itself in the US, then buy a cheap SIM card from a US carrier (yes, you'll have to buy some time, so it depends how certain you want to be that your phone is working OK). But, in any case, use your Ortel card for the first time ONLY in Germany.

If you are planning on travelling to germany this us a must have. While it is cheaper to buy a card there you might need one before you get to a gas station to buy one. I bought this and a cheap phone for our trip and it worked great!

The service that was claimed by this company did not exist.I was unable to re-charge the Sim card either on the internet or by purchasing additional minutes via additional Sim cards , as all the retail outlets visited , had not even heard of Ortel . ( claimed 20,000 outlets throughout Germany )I was forced to buy other local Sim card in order use my phone .The money spent on this card , was equal to throwing it down the drain .If I had the time and wish to take the effort .I would try and re-coup my money .
