Good fit
The fit is very nice and the grips feel good in the hand.

The plus of getting scales made by the same maker as the knife.
Perfect fit. The plus of getting scales made by the same maker as the knife. They appear to be high quality and durable. I have done a dye job with rit dyemore and I realized that, given the natural color of these handles, most dark colors will come out dark brown. I used a bottle of green with about 2oz of brown and I got a nice reddish brown. I was hoping for a khaki green or something like that. They look great though. It’s my first time using dye so I’m sure it’s something I’m doing as well. But these are great on my bk16.

Great micarta scales
The micarta scales are a big improvement over the stock plastic scales - both in grip and appearance. The fit was better than the stock plastic scales in that the recesses for the screws were correct. With the plastic scales the recess closes to the blade was too deep resulting in the screw protruding slightly on the opposite side where you could snag your skin on the exposed thread. The finish is not exactly as pictured. It's a hint of green on chalky white. Since the linen in micarta is exposed and will absorb oils or stain you can tone this raw finish down to your liking. I put a tiny bit of Ballistol on a rag and wiped it on the scales. They're now a neutral olive-tan with the layering pattern more visible. The scales I received needed a bit of finish sanding as there were some distinct edges to the curve of the grip surface that needed removing. In all, great scales and easily finished to your liking.

Micarta a huge improvement
Ordered these due to the OEM scales on the BK18 are basically smooth, with no "grippiness". Although a bit pricey, the fit is good, but will need to chamfer/smooth-out the outer edges of the screw holes, as the micarta has a sharp edge. Easy fix with some fine sandpaper. Seems the counter-sinking for the screw holes went too deep (imo). Would personally prefer the screw heads and opposite side hex nuts were closer/flush to the scale surface. Other than that, the micarta is a huge improvement over the oem scales. Purchased the BK18 from a different source, due to Amazon not having the burnt bronze color.

Amazing feel
Really love the feel of the micarta in combination with the design of the handle geometry. Installed on a BK16, love the knife and very happy with the new micarta scales. I can appreciate why Ka-bar keeps these knives affordable by offering the knife for purchase with a basic setup but do yourself a favor and get some g10 or micarta. You will be glad you did. No regrets. Now I need to save for the sheath....

Good fit and finish
These are definitely an improvement over the stock plastic scales. They are attractive and functional. I'm not sure why Ka-bar describes these as being green. They are definitely tan as shown in the picture. Anyway, the micarta has a slightly "fuzzy" finish that becomes appropriately(for me) grippy when exposed to moisture. As far as the fit goes, they are not completely flush with the tang, however, they are a closer fit than the stock scales. I understand the limitations that exist when each set of scales is not mated with their knife(another reason why these should come as a default configuration option), but the fit could still be improved. This is not a huge issue for me, but it is something to be aware of. My only major complaint is the price. Ka-Bar needs to bring the price down on these. WAAAY down. As of this review(1-31-2014), they are $37.99+$4.99 shipping. Combined with the $70 price point of the knife, you're out $110+ in the end. While this isn't outrageous, I'd be much happier if they could bring that total down under $100, which I believe should be doable, especially if they issue these scales default with the knife. Aside from the price, I am mostly pleased with this product. Bring the price of these scales down under $20 shipped, and I would be even happier.

Sand the scale Holes.
These scales are great and change the knife completely. There are different colors available online. They fit on all BK "tweeners" 15,16,17,18,19. They will still fit in the sheath. They may cause a rattle because they are slightly thicker. The retaining strap should take out the rattle. If not, remove the knife. Heat both sides of the sheath at the knife tip of the sheath with a heat gun or hair dryer. Use coffee stirrers or similar to prevent marring and use water pump pliers to squeeze the hot sheath creating pressure on the sheath. You must hold it until it cools. Do it slowly. Repeat as needed for enough pressure. This will stop the rattle. When installing the scales, you will need to take a piece of sandpaper to the 3 holes on each scale. The edges of these on the micarta side are sharp. Just roll or fold up the sandpaper and rotate back and forth in each hole. Think 6, 9, 12, 3 o'clock. Sand a spot a few times then move 90 degrees and repeat just to chamfer the sharp edge of the bolt / nut holes. You are not changing the size or shape of the hole. It will not affect the hex hole for the nut. You are just doing the edge of the holes. Don't breathe the dust that you create. Just do it lightly. It's not difficult. The micarta is very tough. When done there is no visible difference. There is however a huge difference to the "feel." All of their knives should come from the factory with micarta scales. It is annoying to have to modify the new knife and additional cost. But that is the way it is if you want this brand of knife.

Very nice scales.
These scales fit my BK16 knife better then the two sets of scales that came with the knife. I prefer micarta over plastic (or kydex or whatever they were) due to the fact that they grip better when wet, and I use my knife in the rain and snow. It also wears just a bit into the shape of my hand. The only problem with micarta is that it is a more natural materiel, and it needs to air dry really well to avoid the mildew smell. But this is more of a problem with the material, not these particular scales. These are excelent, and look as nice as the picture.

Perfetto
Ottima presa ed ottima estetica. Il coltello ci guadagna in tutto. Suggerisco caldamente, anche perchè il manico in plastica fa pena montato su di un oggetto del genere...

Nice upgrade
Genuine Ka-Bar micarta scales fit perfectly on the BK-16 and other similar-sized Ka-Bar models. Scales are about the same thickness as stock but look and feel much better, especially in cold weather. Swaps out in one minute. Pricy but if you like the knife these scales bring it closer to Tops knives.

Parts missing from order.
Waste of money , handles arrived with no screws to attach to knife. Handles are pointless now.

Great option for the BK16/17
Great option for the BK16/17. Much better than the stock G10 scales.
