Q: Are bags strong enough for can goods?

Not really, if at all only a few standard small cans. The bags are very thin. They can hold up to a certain light weight but I wouldn't recommend it for anything heavy. You can always double bag.

Q: Are these as thick as those sold in California for ten cents ?

never been to CA but the bags are thin so I sometimes double them at my store

Q: What color are these? They look white in some pictures and tan in other pictures.

White. I got them for our small trash buckets (keeping a tied larger one in the new baskets) and so I can change these ALL THE TIME, especially since stores were not using bags for delivery. I still have enough for probably a couple years. A great buy!!
