The best release ever
This is the best of all the releases. This is an amazing version as it contains all the footage from the television version and most of the version that was released in Canada theatrically. There are a of of people that think the movies was cut one song short at the end during the stage performance in Las Vegas. This is untrue as in the U.S. the movie ended with Elvis singing American Trilogy. It does seem to be an abrupt ending for such a great movie but that would lie on the editors. I spoke to Mr. McDowell and he said that he recorded over 30 songs for the movie, so, they couldn't have used anyone of them that would have been released in 1969 to end them movie. The song Burning Love was not released until 1972. The film ends at the beginning of his 1969 Las Vegas come back. A great movie that last the test of time. Kurt Russell is still the best actor that ever portrayed Elvis and left huge shoes for any other actor to fill that comes next. There is another Biopic Elvis movie coming next year and expectations are low for the actor playing Elvis but high for Tom hanks who plays the Colonel. Ronnie McDowell did an awesome job doing the sound track and may not have sounded just like Elvis but it made all the live performances in the film feel genuine and he has great passion for the music that you can hear in his voice. He is one of the best entertainers that is highly underrated and he should have received and Emmy for this movie. He could even get an invite to the NBC TV 68 Come Back anniversary special last year. The Blu Ray transfer is as good as you are going to get for a television film from the 1970's. Part of the blame can also be placed on Dick Clark Productions as they held on to the film and never re-released more than one or two times on television since the original release. Fan hand wrote into the studio for years and it fell on deaf ears until finally an official DVD release happened which was great too. If you want the original theatrical ending with the song Burning Love than pick up the DVD version also. The video transfers are identical and above average. Amazon usually has the movie for $20.00 or less and if it is out of stock do not pay $100.00 or more for it because they will get more.

There will always be only one Elvis... and his name is Kurt Russell!
I saw the most recent 'Elvis' movie (of 2022) and it reminded me of the original Elvis movie that I saw when I was a kid. Low and behold, the movie of my youth is available on Blu-ray and in a quick 48 hour Prime member delivery (and due to modern technology) I now have my own copy of that long-ago flick. I picked an evening when I knew I had a good 3 hours of uninterrupted time and put it on to play. Such a great movie -- even better than I remembered. The relationship between Elvis and his mother is emphasized in this movie and I have to admit that I got a little misty-eyed more than once while viewing it. If you're not a huge Elvis fan you will still like this movie, but if you are a fan of 'Suspicious Minds' or 'In the Ghetto', you will LOVE this movie! Watch this, and you will thank me later.

Kurt Russell resurrects Elvis in a Great Bio Pic
The 1979 Dick Clark production was a brilliant surprise when it aired on ABC as a TV movie. Beautifully directed by the great John Carpenter, Kurt Russell nails his portrayal of the King with an uncanny performance. Shelly Winters shines as Elvis's mother, as does Season Hubley as Priscilla. Elvis is sonically recreated by Ronnie McDowell and delivers fabulously. If you've never seen this, get it. It's a classic.

Great film by director John Carpenter!
It's impressive that this is in 1.85:1 aspect ratio, which is more unusual because Carpenter typically preferred 2.35:1 from Assault on Precinct 13 to The Ward. His favorite was always Cinescope ratios, but it's nice to see what he did for ABC and how Shout Out made a great blu-ray with special features. Kurt Russell actually met Elvis Presley when they worked on a film together, 'It Happened At The World's Fair,' and kicked him too hard in the shin for the scene. He did not realize who he was until he put two and two together. So his performance as "The King" is probably one of the most legitimate after watching and working with him. My dad remembered this film fondly and really liked Russell's performance as the rock and roll famer.

Kurt Russell is the best Elvis actor ever
Prior to the new Elvis film, this was considered the definitive Elvis movie and Kurt Russell was considered the best Elvis. How does it compare to the new movie? Well, the new movie has modern filmmaking techniques, is fast-paced, and has a big budget. This is a TV movie from 1979. This is slow-paced and the first 30 minutes are kind of boring. However, it does get a lot more interesting. Kurt Russell blows Austin Butler out of the water when it comes to portraying the King. He looks and acts much more like Elvis. Kurt was nominated for an Emmy for this film and he should have won. While I enjoyed how stylized the new film is, it also put in a lot of things that would be considered woke. It was refreshing to see a film that wasn't trying to force the agenda on us. This movie is a nice companion to the new movie that tells the story in a more conventional way. Unfortunately, this movie only covers his 50's career and his first Las Vegas show so it leaves a ton of Elvis' life out, which has to be done with time constraints with a movie. You would need several movies to cover E's life properly. As for the Blu-ray, it looks great. Just keep in mind it looks like an old movie from the 70's. It is not going to look like a new movie. This movie looks exactly what it should look like and the Blu-ray is worth it.

I am loving how the movie starts with Elvis doubting himself and his career and flashing back to his childhood.

Brilliant film, Kurt Russell plays Elvis Brilliantly. It Won't work unless your Blu-ray is muti regional, if it isn't it won't play.

Kurt Russel did a fantastic job as Elvis, I imagine how much better this movie could have been if there was a much bigger budget involved.
