Good solid story
While there are comments that the story was slow, I found it just about right. I loved the character development and I could imagine the house, the greenhouse, etc so well. I love the idea of describing life through color. Ms. Park still made me cry and laugh - a good book in my mind. My only question that wasn’t answered, and I can maybe imagine, why didn’t Danny make snow people in front of his house?

3 1/2 stars but rating on the curve.
My first read with this author and in reading this book I concede it had some special moments but I almost gave up on this book since it’s a very, very slow start that frustrated the heck out for me. I agree with other readers that the menu was enticing and I had to look up some of the recipes. The town was also another poignant factor for me to continue to read…something about a small town, and fixing a lake front home that prompted me to read more than I expected. Although I liked the main characters to me the storyline fell short, like something visceral was missing and I really couldn’t put my finger on it but there’s more to the story. The book does not appear to be a series so I feel that more could have been provided to enhance the emotional impact of the storyline and the overly drawn-out background story on Callie could have been lessened. In the end the book was not a bad read so I will try another book from this author.

She’s back!
I don’t know how this book was published without me even knowing that Jessica Park was writing a new novel. I’ve got notifications set up, follow her on multiple platforms, and I somehow missed this! It felt like Christmas morning when The Color of Us appeared in my Kindle. And I was not disappointed. This was just what I needed. I was preparing for an emotional punch in the gut. Left Drowning is one of the very few books that I needed to read twice. My emotional hangover was so intense, I thought the “hair of the dog” would give me another perspective…that I could read it again without being enveloped by the pain, knowing that the ending would resolve all of the depression and pain that I indentified with a little too much.So I was a bit wary approaching this one…hoping it would be a bit more 180 Seconds or Flat-Out Love, but knowing I’d dive right in regardless. The Color of Us is beautifully, tenderly written. Though it examines some of the same themes that Ms. Park has delved into in previous books (childhood trauma, abandonment issues, identity crisis), her characters are on a positive path of self discovery for most of the story. In fact, as a reader I was struck by how easily the romance(s) developed and how very healthy they all seemed. These characters are adults who act like adults…even in their damage.Welcome back, Jessica! Please keep writing!

cute but cheesy
It’s kind of a slow slow burn book. I like the relationship between Danny and Callie but it’s a little cheesy. She lives in a small town, her dad dies and is uprooted and moved away. She starts out by coming back to fix the house to sell but stays and makes it her own. She first come to wake not knowing how to cook and in the end owns her own restaurant. I feel as if it was rushed but drawn out.

Heart breaking but amazing uplifting journey
I absolutely loved this story! The characters were all unique and lovable. The life journey that Callie & Danny were dealt with was heart breaking but yet empowering as they both used their love and love from others to get through it.The way they used their love to show that the pain they were in will and would not define them was beautiful. It makes me want to move to a small town lolI’m not going to lie at the end of the story I was left with wanting more. My fingers are crossed hoping there is a sequel someday because I’m a sucker for love and want to see the happy ending with moving in together, marriage & babies all that good stuff. Plus I would love to know more about Mary Ann’s character. There is definitely a lot more to her story I would love to know about. But even with how it ended I absolutely love this story. And would recommend it to all.

Jessica Park Can Do No Wrong
The freaking emotional rollercoaster that is this book, holy guacamole. Just the right mix of heartwarming yet heartbreaking, cheesy yet spicy (and I’m not just talking about the the food!), and silly yet poignant. Also, as a therapist myself, reading realistic and non marginalized responses to extensive childhood trauma…and the subsequent maladaptive coping mechanisms that tend to reverberate into adulthood was the cherry on top of this book. Also loved reading about adorably autistic Alex but that it wasn’t made to be a big deal or even named in the novel. The perfect representation of compassion, understanding, and influence people can have by just treating people as people and not their diagnosis.I’d give Michelin stars if I could but alas, this will have to do. Thank you, Jessica. But also if you read this, have snacks on hand… just trust me.

A sweet story
This is a very sweet story of love, loss, and redemption. The characters are perfect and wonderful. Danny and Callie are childhood sweethearts reunited in all the best ways. You'll laugh out loud, swoon, and wish you too could move to Wake VT. I loved it.

Beautiful story
The Color of Us is a fantastic story. Full of heartbreak and tragedy, as well as hope and love. I thought the connection between Danny and Callie was incredible. The way she came back and transformed her childhood home was an amazing process. She came alive as she found her creative purpose while cooking and designing her home. Danny had his own demons to overcome, with the abandonment by his mother. I loved this town and how they took care of each other. This was a very beautiful story.

As beautifully woven as I hoped...
Fabulous characters as always and a beautiful story. I love your gift for laying out the gifts that come with being non Neuro typical, as well as the dificulties. I adore your writing Jessica, thank you so much xx

The Color of Us
Good, quick read. Not a lot of depth. Nice for an easy read before bed. Would recommend but probably wouldn't reread though.
