My skepticism was unwarranted.
I scan just about every piece of paper that comes into the house - receipts, kids' drawings, speeding tickets, whatever... I struggled for years with a flatbed/sheetfed scanner on a low cost multi-purpose home office printer. That thing finally died. This Iriscan Desk product line looked interesting and promised lots of cool software features. I chose the Desk 6 Pro because the 21mp camera mathematically gives slightly better resolution even with the larger working area. There is also a bit more flexibility with how you throw things on there. Caution #1- it's not really a 21mp camera. But that doesn't seem to matter. Caution #2 - the Desk 6 Pro is big. The mat is like 47cm x 53cm. Make sure you have the real-estate somewhere. It does roll up nicely and the stand/camera-arm can fold up. In the end, I'm impressed with the software and the scanning results. Installation was a breeze, except that you have to make sure you download the correct installer for your model. I installed the non-pro software first, and it did not detect the scanner. But the correct software worked without issue. The interface is not super pretty, but it is powerful, fast and effective. I can scan much faster than with my old scanner especially with 2-sided documents. Text is sharp. And the OCR is amazing. It creates searchable PDF's. What you see is the original, but you can search for text and it highlights it. The files are nicely compressed. Image and file management tools in the interface are useful and intuitive. It is even easy to scan both sides of something like an ID onto one output page. One final caution - this technology is not really meant for glossy paper, like brochures. Maybe if there is plenty of diffuse ambient light. But the built-in lights, while very effective on matt paper, cause a reflection and "washed-out" area on glossy paper. Small glossy things are ok because you can place them off center to avoid the wash-out zone. I haven't tried the fancier functions, like making videos. But that functionality is there. Overall very happy with the purchase.

Don't buy it.
Just bought it. Software doesn't recognise device no matter what you do. Reboot device, change USB port, reboot system - simply nothing works. Also no chat and support only through eMail exchange. This is totally inadequate.I'm going to return this item.

Worked well for the project.
We used this to scan cover pages of about 4000 books that were turned in for reuse. There was some learning curve, once we got the hang of it, we got everything documented and information available to all in no time.Few tips: (Book Mode)a) Having the camera in front of the monitor, helps to align the spine.b) Used the auto scan feature so do not have to press any buttons.c) Used curve fitting for the cropping.d) Review the images before exporting. Go into the edit mode and if necessary change the cropping to straight fit and if necessary manually adjust the image cropping. This gives insight which algorithm (straight vs curve) to use in the future based on the book. We didn't have to do much. This step does save lot of grief on those few images that don't come out right (It's the nature of these algorithms and no one algorithm is always right).e) Export the images. We plan to get a 2nd camera to help with project in a different location.Giving it a four, documentation can use some help.

Their site erm..
... is an up-sellers paradise a marketing miasma. Stock images cascade and obstruct. Marketing forms are fragile and your info contained in them, forgotten and reset with any missed field. Their site will take a bit more time than it should. All of this to download the necessary software driver for the hardware you purchased. (2023 Microsoft doesn't do this automatically. ) A "Dark Pattern"? You betcha!

Untrust worthy.
Bought and installed. Did not work in any way. Repeated emails with tech support - just waste of my time. They FINALLY decided unit was defective and if I would return original they would send a new one.Cost me $14 to return their defective equipment. Got replacement which I think worked but too tired and disgusted to try. Wrapped up and put on shelf. Never had to pay to return defective purchase before especially after they told me original was defective and should be returned.Pxss poor service.

Only by Email - and it takes 2 Days
I'm on a Mac. I setup my IRIScan Desk 6 and downloaded the software. When I opened the IRIS app, it gave me a message; "Device not detected. Restart your computer and try again. If problem persists, contact customer service." I rebooted my computer, still nothing. I checked my camera permissions, it was setup to allow the IRIS device. I checked my computer's USB device report, the IRIS device was showing connected. I opened another scanning software; it detected the IRIS scanner and it worked. (My other scanning software isn't a good option for a camera-scanner. I need to use the IRIS software.)I've read reviews from Mac users here: in spite of the advertising the IRIS software has problems or doesn't work on Macs. Then I found out: IRIS only offers customer support by email. They warn it usually takes 2 days to get a response. Tech support by email is totally inefficient; you send and wait 2 days, they respond with the wrong answer, you send again and wait 2 days, they respond asking more questions...that takes too long. No chat? No phone line?I immediately packed up the IRIS scanner and hit "return order" on Amazon. I just dropped it off at the nearby Amazon return hub. I'll get my refund in less than 7 days. That's a whole lot quicker than waiting for them to troubleshoot and fix the problem.

A new type of scan device
It did provide a fast scan and lightweight device, but quality is not good as tradition scanner
